North Dakota professor calls 911 on ROTC cadets

The professor relates ROTC exercises to school shootings in her opinion piece.
http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion ... und-campus
Apparently, it's not enough that UND's administration is attacking the quality of education by cutting programs and experienced faculty and jacking class sizes. Now, we must also feel under physical attack as well.

I look up from my office computer to see two figures in camo with guns outside my window. My first thought is for my students' and my safety: I grab my phone, crawl under my desk and call 911. The dispatcher keeps me on the line until someone can see if ROTC is doing maneuvers.

I can barely talk—first, with fear, and then with rage when the dispatcher reports back that yes, in fact, I've probably just seen ROTC cadets, though they're going to send an officer to check because no one has cleared it with them. They thank me for reporting it.
If anything, this is a good example of why the gun restrictionist horde will never be brought along to understand gun ownership is not equivalent to murder. Per her own statements it is apparent the professor is fully indoctrinated by the fear lobby and committed to trying to SWAT the cadets. She has promised to call 911 every time she sees them doing drills.

Another news story of the fearful restrictionists just not getting it. These seem to be cropping up in General Discussion. Are they not getting enough response in the Firearms in the News forum? :hmmm:

ETA: On reflection... I wonder that this isn't something staged by the prof. to make a statement. On the other hand, the prof. perhaps could have kept their head about them for a moment and seen that they were ROTC folks. I blame mass media in part - and anti-gun types in part - for promoting hysteria that mass shootings are blooming like dandelions in the spring. Maybe it's also the atmosphere created by the election, I dunno.

Ought to be moved.

Still it ought to be moved. And I have a hard time believing the professor didn't know they were ROTC. And after she finds out still swears to call the police each time they come out to practice.

Yeah, sounds like she's making an issue for issue's sake. Not helpful.

People are in general way more scared than they should be and not just about guns.

I'm pretty sure she will start getting fines for the false 911 calls. The behavior will likely be brought to a halt. She probably needs counseling or a medication adjustment. I am not really bothered by this behavior from college professors. I think it is about par for the course. The unprofessional behavior has become a bit of a norm.

She will be hailed as a hero by gun prohibitionists, who will describe her as brave in the face of murderous gun bullies who could shoot up UND at any moment.

She should be exposed for the bully she is each time she calls in.

Outside of the world of gun prohibition, Heidi Czerwiec is getting slaughtered on RateMyProfessors. It isn't fair, but the blame lies with how the site works.

Czerwiec is now massaging her story in the interest of damage control.

First time around she might be scared, but after things have been explained to her, she should have approached it from the perspective of troubleshooting rather than crying wolf.

If she asks how anybody can tell whether it's a legitimate ROTC exercise or an active shooter situation, then it's a fair question. It's not unreasonable for the university to notify every faculty member of an upcoming ROTC training, they have email for that.

She crossed from being concerned to being an idiot when she threatened to call 911 every single time. You don't use 911 for political shit, you just don't.

In 1993-1994 I would walk to an from my High School in South Gate (suburb of Los Angeles) with a non-functional M1 Garand while wearing my uniform. The purpose of which was to practice with my M1 because I was on the Rifle Drill team. You could not tell it was a non-functional Garand either (no colored tip, etc).

Not once was I approached by police or anyone else.

Oh the good ol' days!

Edit: I was an Air Force Junior ROTC cadet for the entire 4 years.

My Gawd...

In 2005, I went to FVHS in Orange County, CA. There the color guard had replica rifles that would freak out most prohibitionists like her. Not one person called 911. I think the teacher would have been forced out for such BS.
