New York’s public advocate is pushing regulators to investigate the gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Company’s disclosures to investors about the risks it faces.
In a letter sent on Tuesday to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Letitia James, the city’s public advocate, said that Sturm, Ruger, the Southport, Conn., maker of rifles, pistols and revolvers, had misled investors about who used its products and had not adequately disclosed the reputational and liability risks it faced.
More and more, shareholder activists are questioning whether the gun companies and the retailers that sell their products adequately represent their reputational risks to shareholders, calling their lack of disclosure of these risks a violation of S.E.C. rules.

Some background on the public advocate:

Councilwoman Letitia James has filed a personal injury suit against an itinerant laborer after she allegedly injured herself walking into his legally parked truck.
The Democratic lawmaker, who makes $122,500 a year as the people’s representative in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, is seeking an unspecified amount of damages for wounds she claims to have sustained on July 11 when she walked into a four-inch trailer hitch protruding from David Day’s parked car.
James sustained “serious, severe and permanent [injuries] to her limbs and body” and “she will be caused to suffer … continuous pain and inconvenience,” according to court papers filed last month in Brooklyn Supreme Court by James’s attorney Robert Mijuca of the powerful law firm of Rubenstein and Rynecki.

I've done that before and it hurts like hell.
I should have sued myself for parking my car in the garage with the hitch attached.

Sturm, Ruger is vulnerable to additional public scrutiny, litigation and regulatory attention, all things potential investors would want to know, she said.
Yes, they are more vulnerable to frivolous litigation. And it sounds like this is just one more piece of it.
Though I'd be interested if they included in their annual report that they'll have a huge year if Hillary gets the nomination.

I've done that with my truck, too. Damn near exhausted my supply of expletives over that one.

Some idiot left it on overnight.

Anytime I see a work truck backed into a spot at a hotel I'm staying at and realize that it can take my shin out, I want to yank it off the truck and throw it through the back window.

That thought has run through my mind, too.

I've always been one to watch where I'm going. Plus in Mn you find that a lot of people have them in the summer time because when the fish are biting one doesn't want to waste a minute hooking up the lund.

I was given a work truck from a company before. The hitch was rusted to the reciever and we couldnt get it out. So black and blue shins for me. Until I got rear ended and the kid who hit me took off. Got out and called the police. Impaled on the hitch was most of the kids front bumber along with the front tag. Found kid who was higher than a kite and company got paid for damage. So it worked out except for my shins.
