The result was quite anticlimactic, and I'm pretty sure I smiled. With fear gone, my competitive personality swooped in and I focused only on trying to hit the red bullseye.
Lessig said I did great for a first-timer, but I wanted to be better, and the only way to do that is with practice and training.
Even in NJ... there may be hope yet. <cue cynics among us...>

Finally got around to reading it; and this line stuck out to me:
But like anything that scares me, I wanted to know more so I decided to rent one.
I wish everyone would embrace this philosophy. A lot of problems could be solved through education.

That could have been written by me. Due to past bad experiences at the hands of my ex, I was terrified of guns and a pretty vocal anti-gunner. Then I decided that I had nursed the fear long enough. After two decades, it was time to face my fear. My bff, who has always shot and knows my history, took my shooting with her. As she was going over the safety basis I had tears running down my face. I started with the 22. One shot. Then I walked off and barfed. Came back and said "I can do this!!!" After several hours and a few hundred rounds, I had a HUGE grin!
