Senators voted 27-1 for House Joint Resolution 231. It designates the Barrett Model M82/M107, a recoil-operated, .50-caliber, semi-automatic rifle developed by Tennessee native Ronnie Barrett as the Volunteer State's official rifle. Barrett is owner of the Christiana, Tenn.-based Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Co.

Barrett, these days a board member of the National Rifle Association and known for hosting lawmakers en masse for shooting events, was just 27 when he invented and crafted the rifle.

The weapon is manufactured in Christiana, which is near Murfreesboro.

Typo fixed.

I'm always impressed when elected officials work so hard on the really important stuff...

There will be fourteen folks in the entire state who can afford one. That's about the same number of people who can read in TN... Nah. but you get my point.

Ain't no place I'd rather be.

Ambiguity is the mother of perception.

Propagandist rag WaPo's alarmist take is it's about shooting down commercial aircraft.

Despite being a legislative waste of time, the honor bestowed upon Barrett by state lawmakers had to do with the fact the rifle was designed by Tennessean Ronnie Barrett. That's about it.

Guess soon enough the Hawken Trade Rifle will become the gun of Missouri, or maybe the Winchester Thuddy-thuddy.

From my viewpoint, I'm afraid this merits a giant WGAF.....

So I would venture to ask WaPo's Chris Ingraham just how many commercial aircraft have been brought down by a Barrett in the last 30 years...

The AR15 is known as America's Rifle. I'm wondering what Oregon's state firearm would be? Probably the same answer to the Oregon State Bird, the Oregon State insect, the Oregon State animal... the Banana Slug/

That sounds like a new theme that cries for the artistic touch of klowncannon. Please.
