She arrived home prior to the arrival of the sheriff.

LUMBER BRIDGE - No charges are expected to be filed against a Robeson County woman who fatally shot a man who broke into her home Friday morning, but the final determination will be left up to the district attorney, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office said.
While she was gone, the Sheriff's Office had received an alarm activation indicating someone had broken into the house, Thompson said.

The woman returned before deputies arrived, finding the Jeep parked in her driveway. The woman, who Thompson said is a military wife, entered the residence with her handgun.

This question presupposes that one would not go into one's own home if an intruder were expected to be inside. Perhaps this is good advice for someone unwilling to do what is necessary to secure their own property and evict the intruder. One could rely wholly on the local police to ensure that life and property are secure. In this case, however, it seems the woman was willing to commit to a course of action that not only secured her own property, but also that of the owner of the stolen Jeep. I, for one, consider the result as having an added benefit to the taxpayers of North Carolina in that they will not now have to pay for an expensive trial and incarceration of a thief.
The symbol of the race ought to be a human being carrying an ax, for every human being has one concealed about him somewhere, and is always seeking the opportunity to grind it.

It could have gone horribly against her. I am guessing that she got lucky. Seemingly, she walked into a known hostile environment with zero situational awareness and no backup. Did she even have any training or was she just a pissed woman with a firearm? The articles have so little information.

It's not a TV show. Results of any investigation will take time to be processed, evaluated, and released. Unlike the media, law enforcement likes to release accurate facts.
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
