ALBANY, GA (WALB) - On Wednesday, a police officer was escorted from a classroom at Darton State College.

The officer is a student at the college, and was wearing his full police uniform.

The teacher was reportedly uncomfortable with having a gun in the classroom, and asked the officer to be escorted out.

Looks like the college issued a formal apology to the officer.

"Darton State College is appreciative for the service of our law enforcement, and welcome them as students on our campus. We have apologized to the officer for our misunderstanding when he attended class on our campus, and we regret this happened. We have met with the faculty and staff involved to reiterate the Georgia Law and Darton Policy." - Dr. Thomas Ormond, Interim Provost/VP for Academic & Student Affairs, Darton State College.

South Georgia is a notably pro-gun region. Semi-automatics are used to take care of pest problems ie feral hogs.

But good. I don't believe in restricting people but allowing off-duty police to carry. They should have no more rights to carry when they are off duty than a CCW permit holder. It's just as easy for them to take their gun off and leave it in the car as any permit holder.
As someone who supports neither the idea of police as a special class nor enabling hoplophobes, I guess I was skipping ahead to the fact the professor should be concerned with teaching course material rather than with other people's sidearms. A gun in a holster is a gun in a holster and not a cause for concern.

I agree with that. The :slap: was for the professor who worried about the gun. Especially carried by a uniformed officer.

Who escorts an armed policeman? Who do you call? An unarmed security guard? The logic leaves me really concerned about the profs mental capacity. If you are scared, you can ask the cop to leave and hope he complies. If you are really scared, you're in the bathroom trying to keep pants dry.
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
