In November of 2012, two unarmed people were slaughtered by Cleveland police following a bizarre chase and an insane misuse of fire power. Here is a short history of the case from CBS. I've added emphasis.

"CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Police Department announced Tuesday that six of its officers involved in the 137-shot barrage that killed an unarmed pair after a car chase have been fired. The chase began when officers standing outside police headquarters mistook the sound of a beat-up Chevrolet Malibu backfiring as a gunshot.

The deadly chase lasted 20 minutes, beginning in Cleveland and ending at Heritage Middle School in East Cleveland and involved more than 100 officers. At its conclusion, 137 shots were fired through the windshield of the vehicle, killing Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.

Russell was hit by 24 shots, Williams by 23. Brelo is white; Russell and Williams were black."

I see you forgot to mention that they almost run down a cop when the were trapped in a parking lot, then rammed a patrol car when the attempted an escape.

But I guess being a liberal does not mean telling the truth or being fair. And people start wondering why I move to become more moderate.

The lawsuit followed the Nov. 29, 2012 car chase, when 60-some police cruisers pursued Russell and Williams for more than 20 miles to the parking lot of Heritage Middle School in East Cleveland, where officers fired the shots. The chase began near the Justice Center in Cleveland, where officers believed someone in Russell's car fired at them.

Once at the school, officers said, Russell used his car to try and ram patrol cars and run over officers.

The suit says the pair did not have a gun with them during any part of the pursuit.

So a deranged man tries to strike your vehicle deliberately with your child in it and then tries run down your romantic partner but apparently deadly force is not recommended.

I can think of few circumstances where a 60 car pursuit is necessary to bring in or kill two suspects. Especially when the "crime" was a couple of kid's shitty car backfiring. These types of batshit insane pursuits risk far more lives than just letting suspects go. It seems like it's pretty common for the higher functions to switch off and lizard brain to run the show in these situations (eg contagious fire where one cop starts shooting and everyone shoots til they're out of ammo, chases where someone rabbits and every cop currently on the clock joins in the chase).
