Through interviews, investigators said they learned that Hoffman had one of his employees, 34-year-old Billy Beadle of Camas, shoot him in order to initiate him into an internet-based "club" that requires its members to be shot.

Police got a search warrant and found the handgun.

Both Hoffman and Beadle were booked into the Clark County Jail for reckless endangerment, firing a weapon, false reporting and obstructing a police officer.

"...nothing pleases a child so much as to be a member of something or other. Your rightly-constituted child don't care shucks what it is, either. I joined the Cadets of Temperance, once, when I was a boy. That was an awful take-in; no smoking or anything allowed--not even my bad langauge; but they had beautiful red scarfs. I stood it three months, and then sidled out. I liked the red scarfs well enough, but I could not stand the morality."
- Mark Twain Letter to the San Francisco Alta California, date May 20, 1867; published July 7, 1867
The symbol of the race ought to be a human being carrying an ax, for every human being has one concealed about him somewhere, and is always seeking the opportunity to grind it.
