SHOT Show 2016

Ok, figured we should probably have a thread for all the cool stuff that comes out at SHOT. I will be there next year for sure! But, since I can't be there this year, a few things that have interested me from web reports so far:

Personal radar- instead of a chronograph- no more accidentally shooting the arms of it or waiting around until cease fire to set up or take it down.

Kimber is getting into the revolver game? I have very mixed feelings about this.

Attendance RESTRICTED to the shooting, hunting and outdoor trade professionals and commercial buyers and sellers of military, law enforcement and tactical products and services ONLY. The SHOT Show is not open to the general consuming public (e.g., private visitors, hunters, sport shooters, members of hunting and sport shooting clubs, etc.). NO one under age 16 admitted (including infants). Child Care is not provided.
I'll try using my instructor credentials to get in, but we'll see.

Or maybe I need to start a youtube channel (and magically get popular) and thus become part of the "Trade professionals".
I think folks like Hickok45 get in the door via Federal Ammo and/or Buds Guns sponsoring.

I'd like to think Winchester would send me an invite given the amount of ammo I use on a regular basis.

As for the K6s revolver....
Kimber says it has zero, zilch MIM parts but does it have cast parts? The press release gun mag review makes a big deal out of the lack of MIM parts but is strangely silent on whether other casting methods are used. I would find it hard to believe that every little part of the lockwork is forged and milled. Maybe everything inside is stamped.

It's not that I care one whit whether MIM is used or not, but it looks like Kimber is going to trumpet that as a sales point. They must have read the tea leaves over at the Smith and Wesson forums. A lot of old cranks make hella noise about MIM being the true cause of the decline of civilization.

I'd like to see one of these Kimbers up close. I'm skeptical that I'd find it worthwhile to pay more than a J frame for a J frame competitor.

Conceal-friendly wheelguns are not my thing but I'd perk right up if they came out with a target-type model. Finally, I wonder about the wisdom of entering a very crowded segment. Smith has a jillion j frames. Taurus and Ruger are competing there, too. And Kimber isn't beating ANY of them on price.

Shinzen-what are your 'mixed feelings' on the gun?

Been to shot show several times. Worked at a archery shop and when the letter came about the tickets I just asked if I could go if I paid my own way. It was in Louisville ky then and was closer to Chicago. If your buddies with a gun shop owner you could try the same thing. Just dont try and get pricing or order stuff. And dont let vendors scan your badge because whover let you get the ticket will be overrun with sales calls.
Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here! The Dude.

Much the same as yours- they are entering a crowded space and doing something other than a "me too" revolver seemed unlikely. Kimber also has a mixed reputation in general. Although they no doubt make some fine handguns, for the price I have heard more than their fair share of quality complaints.

That said, the write up from Grant makes it more interesting. I would like to shoot it, especially after reading how manageable that pocket 357 is said to be.

Unless the bore axis is lower than the competitor's guns, I'm not sure what kind of magic they're working that would somehow mitigate the recoil more than the others.

I usually respect Grant Cunningham and his excellent blog, but I get this uneasy feeling that because he had a hand in the design, he's, shall we say, less than impartial.

Still, I'll be looking for one to fondle and maybe someday even shoot.

Absolutely!

Maybe even in the direction of Freedom Arms. Last time I checked, they had a mega waitlist. That's almost like printing money.
