That would be nice, wouldn't it? But even the WaPo article's mostly unironic reporting ends with the Pakistani debate about arming teachers, including ending it with reports of a negligent discharge shortly after they initiated the program.

By all means this teacher should be celebrated.

I'll second that; focusing on the individual takes nothing away from a larger debate but does give this person the recognition they deserve. What a brave soul. He could have run, but instead bought time enough to save the lives of his students. Worthy of honor, that.

I noticed an armed student died too. He was armed because of threats to him.

One thing I'd ask for as a teacher is a bigger gun. If I'm required to carry, I'd want a handgun and access to something larger. This seems like a problem that will only get more frequent and I wouldn't want to get into a fight with people armed with AKs if I only had a handgun.

MN public zoo got in three Grizzly Bears. Cute cubs then, big bears now. Behind glass and fences, so an emergency plan was set up. There are several heavy rifles kept in easy access areas known to trained employees. A lock box in a school classroom with access limited to trained and licensed employees and school security officers wouldn't scar the little minds and destroy their futures if the boxes were not talked about before shooting a BG and the guns were painted pink. The schools would probably be praised for good planning if the guns were ever needed. (Then the Principal and any teacher shooting would probably be fired).
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

From what I read the school was guarded, it was just that the few guards were protecting the women's dorm. The attackers apparently failed to kill any female students, owing to the guards' persistence. Unfortunately they had free access to the men's area.

It's horrible, but still much better than the massacre of 145 people just over a year ago.
Glad that federal government is boring again.
