This has come up on another board:
Man Arrested, Charged In New Year's Day Shooting Of Pryor Teen
Three teens knocking on doors, waking people up at 1am. A man living there confronts them, they run and he shoots one in the back as he runs away.
While the majority of the forumites say it's a bad shoot, some people are still trying to manipulate the details.
One suggested it's ok to shoot if the person ducks for cover because they're getting a firing position, but my argument is that the kid didn't have a gun, so obviously, he wasn't shooting, so how can you justify still shooting at him if he's taking cover? A lot of people know that bullets can't pass through car engines, so they could be seeking safety from a shooter.

2The bottom line is, in my book - if your life is not in any danger, then you do NOT shoot. Period.RobertS wrote:This has come up on another board:

3Glad the kid is alive. Innocent until proven guilty but if I were Morgan's lawyer, I'd be very worried.
According to the shooter's own statements (yet another dummy who doesn't understand the meaning of "Do not talk to the police after a DGU"): "As the individuals ran, Morgan continued shooting at the individual on his right, striking that individual. " and "The distance between where Derek Morgan says he first shot at the individuals and where the C.P. was shot in the street is approximately 85 feet."

Re: Man shoots fleeing teen in the back after a prank
4Pranks can get out of hand. One Halloween, a 'treater' tried to push their way in past me. I always keep my SR9 on the back of the chair next to the door, this is the Detroit area after all, I live alone. Many Detroiters drive their kids out to the near burbs to trick or treat. Their are plenty of 'kids' trick or treating that are in their late teens, big ones. A home invasion could easily be managed on this night. As I reached for it I heard a giggle that I recognized as my neighbor's wife Barb. I don't know what might have followed, but my adrenaline was pumping. She had been planning it all week.

Sounds like an unjustified shooting.

7Texas law allows plenty of shooting with special thumbs up after dark usually involving theft or harm to someone. Still, I think shooting after running pranksters after dark wouldn't be OK even here.

9Man... I'm thinking of all the times as kids that we put dog crap in people's mail boxes, or left it on their front porch and ran off after ringing the door bell. That was a good time on a Saturday night in 70's era Lubbock Texas. Long before the Terror-Industrial Complex was in full swing. Guess you can't risk those kind of hijinks these days.

12everyone knows that being quoted lends extra authority to the point being made, and most of us are too adhd to notice who is quoting who.
