Newsflash: Brit discovers shooting is fun and other stuff

Nice article in The Economist. Anti-gun Brit takes trip to DC area gun range and discovers it's not full of baby killers.

Yet shooting is fun. And what Europeans—and liberal Americans—often don’t realise is that these deadly weapons are also an accessible, affordable and interesting hobby for millions of people.
Hell is where:
The British are the chefs
The Swiss are the lovers
The French are the mechanics
The Italians make everything run on time
And the Germans are the police

Some Brits learnt that in the UK - albeit rifles only 99.9% of the time (I was allowed a 22 revolver at Bisley once and once only as something to occupy our time between the 200 and 500 yard competitions.) I still have friends that shoot back in the UK, but they do mention it as being harder to keep up.

Golly, it almost sounds like he could be one of us! :)

I wonder whether now having discovered that shooting stuff is fun the author's jaw wouldn't drop at discovering that liberals like guns, too? (those liberals here, at least)
They do exist! (faints)
Heck I have even met liberal brits that like to shoot!! :bananadance:

Indeed. I wanted to add before that it is nice to see a positive article for a change, and in The Economist no less. Very cool.

Heck, if an Economist writer can discover not only that shooting stuff is fun, but also that gun enthusiasts are not a bunch of killers, then anyone can.

Where's Coach? This is a good occasion to use his 'It's Happening!!' meme, but maybe without Ron Paul. ;)

There are lots of gun owners in Great Britian eagerly pursuing their sport but the media love to hate firearms. No citizen can own a revolver or pistol anymore. Did you hear that. Sorry, except drug dealers and armed gangs. Ho hum. They put their trust in their politicians and a free press who demonised them as nutters. All those men and women shooting paper targets on a Saturday afternoon denied their right to pursue a hobby that their forefathers had enjoyed since firearms were invented. Many of their forefathers did invent them. But they took it in the shorts because they did not have a Rottweiler on a chain to defend them. You all it the NRA.
