"Guns in America" will be on Thursday at 8PM ET.

He will join CNN's Anderson Cooper Thursday for an exclusive one-hour live town hall on gun control in hopes of mounting a final pitch to the public.
Obama will sit down with Cooper at 8 p.m. ET for the event, titled "Guns in America." The event's timing coincides with the fifth anniversary, next Friday, of the shooting of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona, in a rampage that left six dead and 13 others wounded.

In addition to discussing gun issues with Cooper, Obama will also take questions from the audience on the issue.
Not sure why they see the need to sell executive orders.

Because the end goal is to erode opposition to/whip up support for "common sense" gun control laws?

"We're doing all we can to protect your children, because the Congressmen who are in the pocket of the NRA won't let us take stronger measures through the legislature."
Indeed.

And the Germans are the police

It's official. https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-of ... d-make-our
A person can be engaged in the business of dealing in firearms regardless of the location in which firearm transactions are conducted. For example, a person can be engaged in the business of dealing in firearms even if the person only conducts firearm transactions at gun shows or through the Internet. Those engaged in the business of dealing in firearms who utilize the Internet or other technologies must obtain a license, just as a dealer whose business is run out of a traditional brick-and-mortar store.

Quantity and frequency of sales are relevant indicators. There is no specific threshold number of firearms purchased or sold that triggers the licensure requirement. But it is important to note that even a few transactions, when combined with other evidence, can be sufficient to establish that a person is “engaged in the business.” For example, courts have upheld convictions for dealing without a license when as few as two firearms were sold or when only one or two transactions took place, when other factors also were present.

There are criminal penalties for failing to comply with these requirements. A person who willfully engages in the business of dealing in firearms without the required license is subject to criminal prosecution and can be sentenced up to five years in prison and fined up to $250,000. Dealers are also subject to penalties for failing to conduct background checks before completing a sale.
So does this mean I'm a firearms dealer if I sell one gun through armslist or a Facebook group?

Sales from GB need to go to an appropriate FFL anyway and that's where the BGC is done. just as if I purchased from AIM, Classic,Bud's, or any other entity.

This "town hall" is tonight at the Johnson Center at George Mason University. It is not open to the public or students; it is by invitation only.

I would expect to hear a child thank Obama for imposing these restrictions to save his life, a "gun owner" or "hunter" thank Obama for imposing these restrictions to save lives, and several scripted softball questions worded so they include statements of thanks to Obama for saving lives by imposing these restrictions.

"The National Rifle Association sees no reason to participate in a public relations spectacle orchestrated by the White House," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told CNN, which is moderating the live town hall Thursday evening in Virginia. The NRA strengthened its comment after initially saying the White House had "organized" the event.
Probably the smartest thing they could do.
A CNN spokesperson said that it was the network, not the White House, that proposed the idea of a town hall on guns, and noted the audience would be evenly divided between organizations that support the Second Amendment including NRA members as well as groups that back gun regulation.
This ought to be good.

Local pro-gun advocates are not invited so there will probably be quite a few of us "cold dead handers" hanging out on campus to make a statement. I hear demanding moms and others may show up as well. I would open carry but I can't because I'm a student.
Just got this:
CNN is hosting an invitation-only event with President Barack Obama on gun violence Thursday, Jan. 7 in the Johnson Center.

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, we will likely see protesters on campus—some of whom may be carrying weapons.

Please be advised that it is lawful to carry firearms in Virginia, and this includes at public outdoor spaces on our campus. University Police is aware of this and will have officers present to ensure that all protesters remain law-abiding and maintain the safety and well-being of Mason’s faculty, students and staff.

Please know that university policy prohibits Mason students, faculty and staff from carrying weapons anywhere on campus. And no one outside of law enforcement is permitted to bring weapons into Mason buildings, not even gun owners with legal permits.

Learn more about Mason policy regarding weapons on campus.

If you have questions or concerns, please call the Mason Police Department at 703-993-2810.

Sincerely,
Thomas Longo
Interim Chief of Police

Er…numbers I've found say 450 gun homicides in Chicago for 2015, which is just over 5% of gun homicides
The entire state of Illinois had <750 homicides the past couple of years, so that seems plausible.

I think you're the victim of bad meme, or maybe bad math.
Sorry was thinking shootings which were close to 3,000.

So I looked it up to be certain. http://crime.chicagotribune.com/chicago/shootings
