Been hearing buzz about Ruger's new polymer pistol offering in 9mm and .45ACP.

2Looks like they expect to lose the DOD competition and want to make some money off the R&D.
I'm trying to see why it would be better than a Glock, M&P or Xd. That said, I'll be interested when production reviews come out.

3"We have one too." seems to be the sentiment. There's really nothing innovative or interesting to set it apart from the brands you mentioned. Too bad they also aren't pushing out a compact/CCW version at the same time. You really need both to compete these days.KnightsFan wrote:Looks like they expect to lose the DOD competition and want to make some money off the R&D.

I'm also curious to see how overpriced expensive their mags will be. Only Walther seems to burn their customers more on aftermarket accessories.

4From reading about it on other sites it appears that the fire control group is modular and it would be very easy to swap out frames like the Sig 320. That is a new direction for Ruger and I like that idea. I don't see this one replacing my SR9C, however, unless there's something there that I haven't seen yet.
Re: Ruger American Pistol
5If it is modular that would be a neat selling point for its price. Of course, it depends on what the serialized part is.

7It's better looking than the Plastic 2X4 also known as Glocks.CDFingers wrote:It's ugly. Chacun à son goût.

8My understanding is that Ruger never intended to make a bid on the DOD competition.KnightsFan wrote:Looks like they expect to lose the DOD competition and want to make some money off the R&D.

9Military Arms Channel did a review on this and it wasn't exactly positive. The back portion is rather beefy and it knocks up on the thumb knuckle (even removing skin). Trigger reset is pretty much non-existent, and the gun is actually one of the heaviest polymer guns out there. Not looking so hot right now.
But you know what? I still want to try one out!

10Just what we need, more plastic pistols.

Re: Ruger American Pistol
11Finally got around to watching the MAC video. Seems like a modest attempt at another polymer gun, but fails in the grip/palm swell area along with it not accepting other Ruger (SR9) mags. There are too many other manufacturers making better, more affordable products. I'd like to try it out, but there's no way I'd ever buy one.pdoggeth wrote:Military Arms Channel did a review on this and it wasn't exactly positive.
