Some PD's *really* need to step up on their training regimen and training ammo budgets. Oh, and reform the whole "officer liability" (or lack thereof) thing...a PD officer should be just as responsible for stray rounds as anyone else.

Apparently Chicago could cut their gun death rate significantly if the cops stop shooting.
A man armed with a bat can kill you as fast as a man armed with a fist or an AR. All are lethal.
I would wait for the investigation, but it is Chicago.

No one disputes that but an unarmed 55 year old woman who just answers the door is no threat to anybody. Tasers mace and when they fail go to the gun.

According the NYT story, it's possible she was shot accidentally.

I too will wait for some real facts before crying "murder".

“He wasn’t just a thug on the street, he was an honor student in college and high school,” (Quintonio) LeGrier’s mother, Janet Cooksey, told WBBM-TV. “Seven bullets were put in my son. Seven.”

“Eight shots were fired,” she added tearfully. “One hit an innocent lady who was just opening her door. Something is wrong with this picture.”

Funny how your " real facts" trend towards blaming the victim whenever a cop kills a black person.

Sometimes, the victim is at fault. If you commit an illegal act, forcing police involvement, and then fight with the police until they feel their lives are at risk, you will probably wind up dead. Of course, the media will revel in the death while ignoring the illegal act that started the chain of events.

Surprisingly, most cops don't enjoy shooting people. Also surprisingly, most cops never discharge their weapons in the line of duty, even though their job description involves facing danger frequently.

Isn't it, though? Much like "wait for facts" is immediately translated into "apologetics."

It's certainly not okay to make assumptions, favorable or unfavorable, about guilt or innocence based on race (we have a name for that - it's called "racism"), yet similar assumptions based on occupation seem to be just fine with some folks.

"But that's different!" Yeah, right.

You can choose your occupation and how you do your occupation. You can't choose your race.

So this makes the prejudice (that is, prejudging) okay? I think not.

YOU chose how you respond to other people. If you damn the cops for doing it then do it yourself, you're a hypocrite, plain and simple.

If the shoe fits, wear it. (Due to high demand, the LGC Shoe Department may be out of stock on that particular style. We'll have more in soon.)

This isn't about police in general, it's about Chicago police. You mentioned the differences between different departments in another thread. Chicago, New York, Albuquerque among others have come under the microscope for a few years now. I have seen rampant racism in the different PDs and county sheriffs departments in my home state for years. You should see what it's like being Native American and living in Carlton county Mn.
