Time to rev up the political machine and blame the gun...

"Preliminary evidence gathered on scene indicates that a group of subjects who had a history of feuding encountered each other inside the mall and got into an altercation which led to Mr. Westbrook shooting a firearm. This was not a random act of violence and the subjects involved are known to one another,"

So it was a gang related shooting in a public place. I wonder how long until it's forgotten about since white people weren't targeted.

Unfortunately, the shooting being remembered would be synonymous with calls for more restrictions on gun ownership.

Suspect was shot by an off-duty police officer allegedly after pointing his gun at the officer.

Westbrook's mother says he would not have pointed his gun at an officer.

Since then, he had been arrested at least 11 times, according to police records. His most recent arrest was on Oct. 18, for marijuana possession, speeding and resisting arrest.

I could not miss the "turning his life around" dog whistle. That is a standard among white racists wanting to suggest these young men are not trying to better themselves when tragedy strikes or they become victims of circumstance. Geez.

Daquan Westbrook happened to be an aspiring rapper, the cover of his rap album is shown in the article. He was also enrolling in community college, which by all measures qualifies as turning one's life around.

It's unfortunate that he fit the negative stereotype to a t, but facts are facts.
