In Memory of Tamir Rice and Georgia Lee Moses

As we watch the Cleveland DA and police distort and essentially discard the case of Tamir Rice, I am reminded of another murdered 12 year old.
Her name was Georgia Lee Moses, and she was abducted and killed in Petaluma, California, in 1997. Petaluma is the same city where, a few years earlier, a child named Polly Klaas was also abducted and murdered. The Klaas case became a national obsession.
The case of Georgia Lee Moses, a Black child running from poverty and a troubled home life, barely drew attention.
And then Tom Waits wrote a song that has become a lament for all the Georgia Lees in America.
