How many are going to see Star Wars tonight?

Star Wars is special to me and my wife. That was our first date June 26 , 1977. Exactly one year later we were married. Our song is the theme from Star Wars, also her ringtone on my phone.
We will wait till her birthday in January to see this one.
So when did you see the first one and is Star Wars special to you?

My older cousins had seen it 4 or 5 tomes. They took us when we said we hadn't seen it. It was the second movie I'd seen because our parents never took us to movies.
I was almost 8.

I'm not going until Sunday afternoon.
I first saw Ep IV in June 1977, as a wee lass of 11.

I wish!
But I have noticed something peculiar. Years and years ago I remember theaters were very strict as to when they can show premieres. If a movie was premiering December 18th (I'm talking about official releases, not special premieres for Hollywood insiders or a select group of movie fans), the earliest they could show it was midnight, but it still had to actually be on Dec 18th. Then slowly theaters started laxing on that policy, and then we got 11:59PM premieres. I guess the studios probably thought "well f*** it, if it's premiering the day before, let's make it earlier so we get more people in the theaters instead of just the hardcore fanboys who get no sleep". So then there were 11pm premieres, 10pm premieres. Now I hear for Star Wars it's even starting as early as 7pm tonight. And of course there will be 1 or 2 showings after that to sneak in more profits for both Star Wars and perhaps caffeine beverages.

Going to see it on X-Mas. We don't have family here so we've made that our tradition, to go to Alamo Drafthouse (where they serve food and good beer during movies).
Watching the six first movies at home first, halfway through - on to the good ones now

Gonna catch an afternoon show on Monday. I've managed to avoid trailers, stories and spoilers so far. A couple more days of avoidance won't kill me.
I saw the first one, "A New Hope" in theaters. Will always remember how I felt when that Imperial Star Destroyer filled the screen. It was like that sumbitch went on and on for 10 minutes. I saw that one in theaters at least 20 times. Empire Strikes Back was also awesome. Return of the Jedi sukked donkey balls.
I hear this new one is a winner. I look forward to it.

Going late on Xmas Eve night for similar reasons.

This one is getting great reviews. JJ Abrams is the man. May go see it on Sunday.
Don't remember when I saw the original one. I know I saw Empire Strikes Back when I lived in Austria as a kid. Probably the first American movie I saw. Loved it but it gave me nightmares for months. Impressionable child.

Went and saw the second showing at a theater last night. It was fantastic, blew the prequels out of the water. This time the script lives up to the story.
As far as my interest in Star Wars, I have over 100 of the expanded universe novels. So you can say I'm invested.

I used to own most of the EU novels (even the shitty ones) as I was a rabid star wars fan as a younger man. Now, still a fan but in a more casual way. I only hung onto my XWing books, I, Jedi and the Thrawn stuff by Zahn as they were the ones that really stood out to me. I will say I never managed to read much of the later stuff (New Jedi Order, etc) so I can't speak for book quality there.
That being said I don't remember the first time I saw Star Wars, as I was born in 1982 I missed the first theatrical release. However, I did see special edition releases in theaters, and I waited for several hours to be the first in line for Episode 1 (though I didn't bother doing that for the next two movies) it was fun, but I was pretty dissapointed in the movie.
I'm going to be seeing The Force Awakens sometimes next week, not sure when. But I'm super stoked to be taking my kid to it. I had a helluva moment seeing Jurassic World with him (as I remember seeing Jurassic Park in the theater with my dad and brother back when, so many feels when the music swelled!) so I'm hoping for kind of the same thing here.

I was seven when the first one came out. I was hooked. Also to no purpose I'll mention that I remember my teenage sister and her friend excusing themselves to go to the women's room to get high. Good times.

My partner went on a Tech Industry sponsored junket for da geeks and saw it today. He said it "wasn't terrible" and at least the acting was better than anything Lucas came up with. But not sure it's worth twisting yourself up to get in early to see it.

Since I'm in a Star Wars thread, it wouldn't be complete without this:

Saw that for the first time Wednesday night. And it lived down to its reputation, that's for sure.

Saw it last night. To avoid spoilers I will only say that Star Wars finally has its mojo back!

And now those are no longer "canon." Which is kind of a shame, since some of them were really brilliant. The Thrawn trilogy was so exceptional that I basically considered that to be episodes 7-9. Mara Jade is my favorite character in all of SW and I hope they'll find some way to incorporate her into the new canon, even in one of the spin-off movies.

Saw the first one in the movie house back in '77. The rest on VHS and DVDs. We'll go see this one on the theater once the excitement does down a bit.

My biggest worry beforehand was that the story wouldn't live up to stories of the EU. I liked the Thrawn trilogy's story, but not the writing. Zahn isn't my favorite writer, I much prefer Allston and Luceno. Because of that I prefered the Jedi Academy trilogy as my 7-9.
ETA: Spoiler warning if you follow the link, but Daniel Craig had a cameo.

I just came out of the theater. No spoilers here.
Star Wars is extremely special to me. I've spent more time reading the Expanded Universe (now defunct) books/comics/graphic novels, watching the movies, playing the video games, and just talking Star Wars in general than anything else. Motorcycle riding? Shooting? Video games of the non-Star Wars variety? None of them even come close.
I'd rather watch the prequels than this movie. This movie makes me want to take all of the last 2 1/2 decades of Star Wars stuff I've accumulated, put it on the lawn, and set it on fire.
Thank you George. You sold this to Disney and they fucked this up even more than the prequels did.

I could never understand how the imperial stormtroopers always got shot up despite wearing helmets and body armor, but the heroes in jeans and leather jacket or something akin to Benedictine attire emerged unscathed.

I'm definitely gonna see it but I'll probably wait a week or two til the crowds thin out. My ideal situation is where I'm the only one in the theater.
