Yard Rustling

I know there is a lot of controversy about this issue, but living in Texas temporarily with the fairly freewheeling gun laws, I do have to say that I subjectively feel fewer incidents of standard street crime or gang style gunplay, but more atypical instances of gun incidents. Two drivers in a road rage taking shots at each other or neighbors fighting over a hedge.

The current crime wave that is occurring, in the DFW area at least, are thiefs taking packages from the front door and theft of Christmas decorations -- especially the laser light projectors that people point at their houses.

There have been lots of videos on the news showing the thefts occurring. I'm waiting for one of these to devolve into a shooting incident....

Link on "freewheeling". Also legal CCW should not be confused with criminal behaviour. Texas does allow legal carry within your vehicle (property) without a license. Legal behaviour does not include a road rage gunfight outside the car over a neighbors hedge. I appreciate humor, but I haven't had my coffee yet.

Sentencing is tougher when guns are at the scene. Laws describe sentencing, they don't directly control a person's actions.

The laws aren't freewheeling but the knuckleheads are.

You think DFW area is bad.. Move to my neck of the woods. St. Louis Mo ! Every single morning and then again at night the news starts off the first 8 minutes of new shootings, drive bys, and criminals using guns. From outright homicides to street robberies by armed criminals, and even hiding in the bushes, garage, between houses, armed and ready waiting for someone to come home so they can take their wallet, car, force themselves into the home, etc... Oh, and package grabs are common too. I think Chicago is worse, but we just hit 187 gun homicides in the city this year.[ not including other type or homicides, knives, pipes, hammers, car, by hand ] And while the area is over 3 million, St. Louis city is only around 350,000 people. thats actually around 1 gun homicide for every 1871 people. ...

These aren't CCW that I've seen. You are allowed to keep guns in your car here and of course in your house. Just general gun owners getting out of control. More of those statistics that merely owning a gun makes it more likely you'll be involved in a gun related incident.

That like saying you're more likely to be involved in a car accident if you own a car...

Emphasis on this!

Not sure what the OP is really concerned about. I see no links to support any statements made in the OP. Knuckleheads are what the name says.

I know. But that's what they always say. I guess if you don't have a gun then you are only subject to someone bringing a gun to some interaction with you. You know the anti-gun statistic I am talking about? It was half mentioned as a joke....

Freewheeling works as a word. Secondary definition surely. Primary implies a disregard for social norms or laws. Secondary is simply a thing that is not repressed or restrained. Though I agree knuckleheads might be a better description of the people involved.
