Solar farm rejected, it will soak up all the sun's energy

From the The so stupid it burns files.
A town council in North Carolina rejected plans to rezone land for a solar farm after residents voiced fears it would cause cancer, stop plants from growing and suck up all the energy from the sun.
Two citizens reportedly made the allegations at a Woodland Town Council meeting in Northampton County, northeastern North Carolina, on Wednesday.
Bobby Mann said the farm would "suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not come to Woodland," the Roanoke-Chowan Herald-News reports.
Retired science teacher Jane Mann feared the proposed solar ranch could hinder photosynthesis -- the process of converting light energy from the sun into chemical energy for fuel -- in the area and stop plants from growing.
She added that no one could tell her solar panels didn't cause cancer.

teach our children science.

I immediately thought of this, from the "that's not how any of this works" files:

At least the science teacher was sort of right in that plants will have a hard time growing in the shade under the panels.

On her defense, she is a politician. They are not expected to know anything. The other was a "science teacher" she is suppose to have some kind of an education..
I do love Diana Degette's comment though.
"“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those know they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”
Yeah, that'll work
The " What they meant to say " response is almost as good on dumb double down.
---DeGette’s spokeswoman Juliet Johnson issued a statement Wednesday, saying the congresswoman mispoke.
“The Congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years, and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said. ---
Funny, I reuse clips all the time for SKS, Mauser, M1, Springfield , etc...

She is right about you thing: You can't tell her otherwise. Next thing you will want to tell her is the sun doesn't move around the earth. Where did she teach science? There is a group-apparently a large group-of people with an alternate view of science. Noah refused dinosaurs passage, earth is only a few centuries old, if it's in the book it must be true.
To be fair, it seems only a few people got most of the attention. Others had concerns about property values being depressed by a large commercial eyesore, and others were concerned about financial things-costs to the town, where the profits were going, what was in it for them. Media may have concentrated on the unusual and humorous and overlooked the mundane everyday concerns of real people.

WTF?
The only thing I can think that would be comparable is if a Conservative proposed legislation on family planning that included a provision for tax credits for building accessible chimneys, because how else are the storks expected to deliver the babies?

senorgrande wins two internets for that comment!
Your comment took the hurt right out of my brain which does not want to process the stupidity exposed in this thread.

What do clips have to do with anything anyhow? They were always just a way to speed loading into magazines. Someone ought to take that poor woman to a range and show her at least which way you point a gun before she hurts herself...
Heh. Just had a vision of a 30 rnd clip..

Did anyone worry that Okinawa might capsize if too many Marines are on one side..?

No, but Guam may sink since the DoD is going to build more military bases there. With Guam we don't have foreign governments to worry about, we own it.

If Guam goes underwater, we could probably build a base on the floating snake corpses...

Maybe Edgar Allen Poe's law .. As its scary as hell.
But I would bet Parkinson has a law for this too. I'll have to dig up his book and take a gander.

Poe's Law:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law
"Without a clear indicator of the author's intent, parodies of extreme views will be mistaken by some readers for sincere expressions of the parodied views."
Or another way of saying it is that "Extremism is indistinguishable from parodies of extremism."
