The argument these people made is even worse than the idiots who think wind farms change the weather.

Apparently the vote was more of a NIMBY issue, which is more consistent with what you get anywhere in the east when you try to build something. The press chose to spin this as extras from Deliverance derailing the project due to their absurd beliefs.
tl;dr Ignorant hicks did make laughable statements, but the solar moratorium was motivated by NIMBYs.

In the past year, Lane noted, the town approved zoning changes to accommodate a trio of major solar farms, one of which is nearly completed.
“How would you and your family like to live in the middle of a solar farm, surrounded on all four sides?” said Lane, a retired elementary school principal. “We have approved three solar farms on almost three points of the compass. This would have completely boxed the town in with solar farms.”
In the past few years, about two dozen solar farms around the state have become targets of public ire, usually over aesthetics and property values. Facing local hostility, several of these energy projects were voluntarily withdrawn by the developers, said Daniel Conrad, a staff attorney for the N.C. Utilities Commission.

Not sure how NIMBYism works in Europe. My guess is government simply does as it wishes and citizens do what they're told.

The farmers wanted the solar farms. The farmers own them and the state gives them a big chunk of money when they sell the energy along with powering the farm. It made farms that were barely surviving into money makers.

Along those lines, I know some people who had wind turbines built on their land. They are making bank off those fuckers.

Well I for one am glad that someone is standing up to big solar and stopping them from sucking all the energy out of the sun. It's about time somebody did. Now if we can get the campaign to prevent dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) poisoning off the ground, we'll really see some progress. :roflmao:

Back in Denmark, you get a huge tax cut if you install solar panels on your house. My parents did that on their farm a few years back, they produce almost all the electricity they use and should pay themselves off in about five years.

Tax cut. That did not register earlier. What government incentives were offered to the NIMBYs in Jerkwater, NC?
