Great day at the range

At the last minute, I decided to head to the range. THe last couple of time had been disappointing. I burned through tons of ammo, mostly missing my target.
I figure I'll just take a 150 rounds of 357, 50 rounds of the as-cast 44s for testing my 29, and maybe 100 rounds of 45 Colt. Also, some 22 and a candy jar full of 7.62x54r for the m44.
I get there and settle in the range out in the back 40, where I can almost always have it to myself. Then I see this jacked up Ford Superduty full of youngsters pull up (probably in their 30s-ha!) and I'm all 'damn, can't a brother get some time by himself?'
Anyway, the 5 of them unload an 'arsenal' worth of firearms, including a Kriss vector, a bunch of those semi auto pistol things, and several more of those AR 15 things. I did notice the pair of 6 inch K frames, the scoped Marlin .357, a Taurus .38, and a Smith 642.
Turns out, 3 of the 5 had never shot....ever. Then, I'm all, 'damn, I get to get in on this'.
Fast forward a little bit. I introduce all of them to the M44, which rapidly becomes a favorite. I shoot the Kriss and enjoy it, except for the three FTF. I dig the sights. I also like the quiet, non Pogo stick-sounding action. I shoot some other black rifles that I dig, but not so much that recall what they were.
Meanwhile, the M44 is still getting a lot of love.
One of the K frame 357s belongs to one of the newbies. After putting some lead downrange with his k frame, he starts eyeballing my nickel 29; the one that makes any shooter look like a rockstar. I say, 'go ahead, just hold on tight, and uh, might wanna move that finger back so it doesn't turn to hamburger'. Let's just say he's planning his next purchase. I was impressed; a brand new shooter cuts his teeth on a 357, and moves right to a 44 mag, then to a Mosin M44. Not only that, at his first turn at the m44, he nailed the gong 4 out of five. He's a natural.
It was a lot of fun and I didn't even shoot all my ammo.
Oh, and one of the newbie shooters was a young woman from The Netherlands. And she didn't have any hesitation when I offered her the Mosin.
