As a result, gun manufacturers have been allowed to sell all manner of war weaponry to civilians, including the super destructive .50-caliber sniper rifle, which an 18-year-old can easily buy in many places even where he or she must be 21 to buy a simpler handgun.

Now, I gotta start the countdown for adult beverage time.
One of the worst articles....ever.

Isn't it true that a .50 cal sniper rifle can kill you deader than a .22 can? Deader = more dangerous?
Adult beverage time sounds excellent to me. It makes so many things easier to take.

Any 18 y/o who can "easily buy" a .50 cal, ain't buying a .50 cal. He may think about it...on his way to buying any number of other things.

They forgot "from the hip". The correct BS phrase is "These are weapons designed for the rapid spray-shooting
from the hip"

Yeah, like gasoline, cigarettes and booze. Not necessarily in that order.

Or like a car fergawdssake. For the price of a .50 BMG rifle and a goodly supply of ammo, a kid could buy a nice used car. I suspect that would be a higher priority for most 18 year-olds.

A Barrett M-82 in .50 caliber runs $12k. A semi-auto Browning M-2 is about the same.
A pound of commercial grade marijuana runs $1800.
I think most 18 y/o boys with that kind of money to burn would go for the 6.7 lbs of weed.

Another fun little fact is that the Barrett M-82 (and variations) weights about 30 lbs. You're going to want to be in shape before lugging that very far.
Oh, and good ammo runs around 5 or 6 dollars...per round.

The Branch Davidians allegedly had one, so they must be bad.

I gotta admit, Coach, I think you'd be a great guy to have a beer with.
When asked about the quantity, the 18 y/o boy would say, "personal stash."

Probably one of my favorite BS claims from when I used to frequent dkos was from one of their hardcore gun control people, who claimed the pistol grip had been invented to make it easier to fire from inside a vehicle and that was why the AR-15 was the go-to choice for drivebys. And this was someone who I believe claimed to be a veteran or at least former military.
