Those are for your supporters of Rand Paul, Ted Cruz. But they are too liberal for Donald Trump and his followers. They expect the Christ child to be blond blue eyed with a combover. :sarcasm:

You know I've heard a rumor that in her later years Ayn availed herself of all the social security/welfare programs that she could such as Medicare and Social Security. Now it might not be true, but I don't find it hard to believe. We're all hypocrites to some extant I believe. But it is a great rumor. I guess she figured the mediocre people took money she might as well get some of it back.

If I believed in hell, Rand would be forced to edit her own works for eternity.

Wow...so if Ms. Rand is against it I guess Christianity must be good, eh? I'll have to look into it...

If Bill O'Reilly is right and there is a War on Christmas, Ayn Rand is a suicide bomber.

100% true. That is why she is intellectual whore who deserves to rot in hell. After spouting so much bullshit about the superiority of the "creative classes" and all the takers in society, she ends her life on public assistance. If she was true to her philosophy, she would have done us a favor and put a bullet in her empty head.

If she paid into Social Security and Medicare wouldn't she have seen those programs as an investment and not welfare?
Wow, she finally figured out how socialism worked in the end!

What made it worse is she died leaving a sizable estate. Normally I'd be the first to say she was entitled to her Social Security and Medicare benefits, but after all the all the screeds she wrote about the takers in society, the situation was a farce.

What I kind of don't get are those folks who read Atlas Shrugged and say they've had an epiphany or that it changed their lives. I've read it with an open mind, and all I could get out of it was that Rand liked 40+ page monologues. Not sure where the epiphany comes from.

But in the end, I can say I actually made it through Atlas Shrugged =).

Atlas Shrugged is worse reading than the Silmarillion. I'd rather read the phone book, at least it's shorter and the characters are more relatable.

I see the big leftist lie about Rand's acceptance of SS benefits is perpetuated in these pages. She herself explained that since the SS taxes were extorted from her she was entitled to this form of "reimbursement". No hypocrisy there, she was entirely consistent.

What is confusing is that the left-wing atheists who despise Christianity find something objectionable in Rand's atheism. Seems like you have common cause there.

With the same old stereotypes and misinformation, too.
Looks like everyone here has to be an atheist. That includes you Christians!

I'm going to be 48 years old in a couple months and as I get older I find myself constantly befuddled by folks like Bob. Why go to a forum where you know you'll not change anyone's mind nor will they change yours? Agree to disagree and move on. The need for constant conflict is a type of mental illness in my opinion. Everyday life provides plenty of aggravation. Why go looking for more?

Not all Atheists are selfish assholes. Just like not all Christians are selfish assholes.

Funny old world.

Because even folks like Bob might have a good idea: I wonder if we could change the rhetoric if we called Social Security a "reimbursement" rather than an "entitlement."

Maybe they would stop stealing from it and trying to dismantle it...
Why go looking for more?
Gotta fight the good fight. Masochists abound.

I have never agreed with the term "entitlement". It's a program we all pay into as part of our retirement program. Call it a retirement program, a retirement benefit, or a reimbursement, but not an entitlement. One could argue that the SS and Medicaid disability programs are indeed entitlements, as citizens that become disabled get a base level of protection from them without having funded the programs all themselves, but not the SS retirement and Medicare programs.

Interesting thought experiment. Use Speaker Ryan's inspiration against him and all that :)
