Though in this case that might be true. How many young gun enthusiasts get into them because of video games? How many have an OK understanding of them because they've played first person shooters since they were little?

Personally part of my interest in guns came from playing video games. I wanted to find out the real life counterpart to the model my character was holding. So I did, I researched it, and later that led me to buying a pistol and still the firearms I want the most are ones that I've used in video games since I was a kid.

Also I think there might be an age difference as far as the way we see the world. Generation Y has grown up with concealed weapon permits being a fact, we've grown up with guns in pop culture and on the streets. They're not so scary to us.

ETA: Also we've grown up always knowing that the Second Amendment is an individual right. It's never really been in question to us, so we see it as a constitutional issue.
This... I can't deny that games like Counter-Strike, and Day of Defeat got me a little interested, though the closest I've gotten for WWII guns is my Para Expert, I don't think my wife would appreciate me going down the WWII collector's rabbit hole just yet.
But it's just a little rabbit hole!
Like some cars, it's bigger inside than out...
Sounds more akin to a T.A.R.D.I.S. than a rabbit hole.

Maybe we don't know as much about rabbits as we think we know..?

Millenials are also the generation least satisfied with and most distrustful of both major political parties. They are also more connected and likely more accustomed to fact checking and Internet research before making decisions. Perhaps we should expect that they won't fall neatly along traditional partisan lines.

It's said that younger generations are trending more liberal, and that appears to be true, but perhaps they're trending towards classical liberalism - which is overall not the modern Democratic Party.

I don't know if guns in video games inspire interest in real world guns that translates into shooting sports, that is an interesting thought. The alleged violence connection hasn't panned out, but that is a far more extreme and unlikely behavioral modification than simple interest... I would love to see a study on that.

I see people younger than me at ranges all the time; even a group of Boy Scouts recently. I wouldn't know which age group any of the young people belong to. I don't cleanly fit into mine either and don't think they are anything more than generalizations. Dislike categorizing people.

Agreed on the dislike of categorizing people.
Turning to the issue of age; I'm 45 and see as many people that are younger than me as are older than me. Sure, there are plenty of geezers out there, but I see a lot of youngsters people in their 20s, many of them female. All this makes me very happy. Because, at then end of the day, no matter what peeps from Canada or Australia might say, shooting is just plain fun, and who doesn't like fun?
