Can I come here and rest a bit?

I am tired. I am tired of explaining to people that in California there are:

mandatory extensive background checks more stringent than the federal ones,

an assault weapon ban,

magazine capacity limits,

written test on firearm laws and safe handling,

the purchaser must demonstrate proficiency handling the gun

and a 10 day waiting period.

Keep asking what more they want.

I have been unfriended and kicked off more Facebook pages and gun and anti-gun forums than I can count. My own church kicked me off their anti-gun page because I pointed out they were using cherry picked statistics.

No there have not been 355 mass shootings this year. That is a made up and meaningless statistic: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/201 ... d-research

And there has been a massive decline in non-suicide gun homicides: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/won ... heres-why/

If anyone knows of a good cave, I am thinking of a new career as a hermit.

And if you are a liberal, most of the gun forums are pretty right wing. Thanks for the info BTW because I have been trying to tell people about Cali laws. FYI: Avoid guns or politics on FB and keep your friends.

I'm trying to write my frustrations out. Made a pitch to the SF Chronicle...not sure they will take ANYTHING leaning "pro-gun" these days. Sigh.

But writing the pitch did make me feel better...a little anyway.

This is a difficult time to be a liberal gun owner.

I know the feeling. I had a good conversation with a friend last night over beers. She went from a "do something" attitude to a "what would work," attitude. A nice shift.

I wish we could all just sit down with these people in person. The conversations would be more effective.

Face book is voluntary. I simplified my life and removed a lot of stress by dropping CNN from the cable menu-don't miss it a bit.

Wife uses Facebook and she points out the pictures of puppies and kitties to me, rest is ignored.
I get my news from a paper. Once a day. Slowly, with time to think about it if I choose.

I don't need a continuous full color on the spot all day long diatribe on current events, especially knowing that the media have placed their emphasis on speed and gore over accuracy. It may seem callous, but I don't need the personal histories of each and every victim, nor live footage of their funerals complete with interviews of their families and neighbors complete with "reporters" asking how the survivors felt when they saw the pictures of their loved ones shot up remains. I've seen dead and I've seen grief . You give me the numbers and facts without the emotional descriptive adjectives reflecting the politically correct view of the day, and I can fill in the rest.

I've also seen "reporters" use the same sets of data and photos to present completely opposite views of the same event, so I tend to take initial reports with a grain of salt.

I am becoming a curmudgeon, and seem to be enjoying that status, but then I just stepped into the part D donut hole.

It's Friday. Time to kick back, relax, and tune out the noise. I'd recommend an adult beverage or three if one is so inclined. Avoid FB and all the major new sites, and don't even think about this stuff for a day or two.

I feel the same way... At least we have the LGC to come back to! :) It is just tiring to have to defend yourself against BOTH the left and right all of the time...

Time to go and turn off the news for a couple of days and get out to do some Bullseye shooting... :)

:roflmao: That is the funniest thing I have read today. :roflmao:

If I were you I would want to know why my church had an anti-gun page to begin with. Churches should be concerned with people rather than causes du jour. Otherwise something is fundamentally wrong.

Facebook is a terrible place to discuss politics. My profession has been under constant attack since Ferguson last year. The cop-haters just try to overscream you and many of the folks who defend my profession are scary as well. Seems to be no place for balance on Facebook. So I use it to stay in touch with old friends and avoid using it for news or discussions on current topics. Less stress that way.

Of course, you're debating with a screen not a person. Easier to dehumanize and discredit what you're reading. In person you have to consider the fact that it's a human being in front of you.

Bud and Charlene Bartholow of Rapid City often travel with their adult sons, Foster and Matt, when the two master trapshooters compete at events across the country, including the annual world trapshooting championship in Illinois.

It's probably a good thing they travel as a family, because the Bartholow brothers often bring home so many trophies, they need other people to help carry them all.

I'm tired also, this is what I did this week to push it out of my mind.

1. Finally installed the Cajun Gun Works reduced hammer spring, firing pin spring, and firing pin block spring set in the Canik S120 (I've had this for almost a year).
2. Ordered and installed a new front fiber optic sight and target rear sight on the Canik S120.
3. Installed a stainless steel guide rod on the Canik S120.
4. Ordered a new pair of grips for the Canik S120.
5. Ordered three more magazines (on sale!) so I can shoot USPSA Production division next year.
6. Went to the range and adjusted the rear sight of the Canik S120 from a bench rest.
7. Set up targets for the Bianchi Cup Practical Event and practiced.

I'm in a better mood and I have new-to-me improved competition gun.

Sounds like a productive distraction, Spara. The canik is the same more-or-less as a CZ, right?

In a similar vein I spent last weekend relocating to a much nicer and convenient duplex, after 18 months surrounded by 18 year Olds living on their own for the first time. And this weekend is a trip to a music fest.

Just gotta focus on the good things to avoid going crazy.

For what it's worth; I just got home after spending three weeks with my family, one of whom is a serious devotee of Faux News. Fuck; watching Bill o'Reilly followed by Megan whats-her-face is enough to make any liberal's head explode. That shit's like crack for white geezers (I would imagine). More than one evening, I had to just get the fuck out of there and go drive around. Then, to top it off, this San Bernardino shooting, and then that whole BS crowdfunded mass shooting tracker thing. I almost wondered if I should just have headed straight for the nearest psych ward and checked myself in.

Bigstones- I always enjoy your posts, so I hope you'll keep 'em coming. I think it's fair to say a lot of us feel your pain. At least some it.
