Both free, both work well.

I used Open Office for years, but now I use Libre Office with is more universally used, and ,more updated. I like it but OO is still a great program .

It's more like 7 than 8 - which is good. You can make it look more like 8 if you want.
My biggest concern with W10 is all the sharing it does. Unless you carefully go in and change your privacy setting, it will basically record everything you do on the computer. That renders most of the new applications worthless, so I don't use them. Edge is one of them.

I had 2 problems on my installation - I had no sound for a while; had to go into Contol Panel and download (another) new driver. Also, when it sleeps, it won't recognize my USB wi-fi device when it wakes up. I have to unplug it and plug it back in - a PITA. I suppose I need to find the CD for it and reinstall the driver. It works fine when turning the computer on and off; the problem is only when it sleeps.

Biggest takeaway, though, especially if you share a computer - go through all the privacy settings and change most of them; if not all. Even still, assume there's a Microsoft robot looking over your shoulder the whole time you're using your computer.

On the plus side, it takes a lot less time to boot up, and is great for organizing all your files.

My real work computer is a Mac, and I'm pretty happy with Windows 7 for the little use I make of my HP laptop. Is there any real reason to switch to Windows 10? I expect I'll keep this machine as long as possible for casual use.

Upgrade to 10 from 8.1 on my personal laptop went smoothly, but I'm still waiting and watching before I do my business machines.

As I've probably said here before, I have no heartburn with 8.x under the hood, but the user interface is an abomination. I hateithateithateithateit.

If you have newer machines the upgrade will be easy and seamless. I'm very happy with windows 10. Some applications will need to be updated, if you are a Quickbooks user, you might already know that any excuse Intuit can create for a paid upgrade, they will exploit.

I had a netbook that i downloaded 10 to and it was not usable. But most netbooks hover on the edge of usability any way.

best of luck.
