PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia's mayor on Monday called gun violence in American cities "domestic terrorism" that is no different from international terrorism.

Mayor Michael Nutter said in a phone interview after a meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch and members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington that citizens want to feel safe, no matter where they live.

"Domestic terrorism is international terrorism," Nutter said. "There is really no level of distinction between the violence that goes on, on the streets of America on a daily basis and the episodic acts of international terrorism that also take place - primarily in cities."

Terrorists use guns.
People with guns are terrorists.

It follows the NRA = terrorist organization angle.

Now imagine a presidential debate or campaign rally where Clinton slips and say something to the affect that equates gun owners as terrorists and the NRA as a terrorist orgainization while talking about an Australian style weapons confiscation.

I seriously think they're sitting in a room bouncing this crap off each other and getting enough positive reinforcement that they believe its what the US population actually thinks.

At least he clarified that he meant criminals.

Unless the spree shooter's goal specifically was to create terror, I would go with "spree shooter" or something else. Terror and terrorism are overused. Every time I hear them misused I can hear Bush, Ashcroft, and the neocons laughing about their handiwork.

These are people who've been smoking their own stuff too often. They'd rather listen to focus groups and echo-chamber websites than the people who they expect to vote for them.

They're not alone - it's a worldwide disease. Heads of state and their security apparatus across the world conveniently implement the word terrorist to define any group who disagrees with them, giving them license to perpetrate all manner of horror and oppression. It's Orwellian.

Spree shooter is a much better phrase to use for instances that are criminal, not terroristic.
