night owls

sometimes i stay up late and browse the forum, especially older threads. there are some real gems in there. so last night about 3am i was looking at some old controversies from august (page 8) and happened to look at the "who is online" line at the bottom, and there were two other members and someone not signed in looking at the same thread. just seemed kind of odd.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

Well, it's not odd but maybe a little disgusting: I check the board on my phone while performing my morning poop, and I often get up between 3 and 4am, which depending on your timezone may be 3 or even 2am. Hope this helps...um... "clear the air". You're welcome.

To me, a lot of things seem odd at 3am, but I've always put that down to being fuzzy-headed. ;)

Aside from working for UPS during the 3am - 7am shift, I was never up that late until I had a kid. Never have slept soundly since. Dang kid.

When I'm working, it's usually swing shift and I might get home anywhere from 2AM to 7AM. When I'm not working there's absolutely no telling when I might be asleep or awake. But I'm up in the 3AM time frame quite regularly.

I'm a night owl, big time. Now I often have to work 'early' which for me means like ten AM. So now I can't stay up much past three.

spooky..

I could be on at all hours. Due to my spinal nerve damage I only get to sleep at best an hour, then I am up for a couple hours with spasms and pain, then an hour or so sleep and up for a couple. Thats my nightly routine until I finally just give up, usually around 5 or 6 am and just stay up.

I feel for you. I have nerve damage to both shoulders. If I roll the wrong way in bed, I can kiss whatever sleep I was going to get goodbye.

Just as an aside, repeated trips to doctors only resulted in them wanting to drug me up, which caused problems for me at work. No one wants to treat the condition, they just want to prescribe a pill. Anything above Tylenol and Unisom is a nonstarter for me.

I hear you loud and clear. They'd rather push pills that actually deal with the medical treatment of it. Im am already on the lowest dose of pain medication I can tolerate pain with. during all my surgeries I was on a lot more medication and hated it. I felt a little less pain, but my brain was just dull. Once I got my levels down to the minimum, I just manage with over the counter ibuprofen and Tylenol, and limit my activities at a level that I can be pretty sure wont make things a lot worse. However, somedays I just have to push myself, and then Im shot for at least the next couple days and forget sleep. Its 60 second drool fest from being exhausted, interrupted by a couple hours of wishing I could get back to sleep.
