Exactly this, and there can be a surprising amount of crossover in their tactics. The major difference is how honest they are about their main goal.TheHunterOfSkulls wrote:Or rather, they don't want anyone noticing how many tactics they've borrowed from the anti-choice movement.Inquisitor wrote:Wouldn't want any abortion restrictionist confusion.pdoggeth wrote:They've changed from "we're pro-life" to "we're for life". Was the word "pro" not doing well with focus groups?
"We want to ban abortion because it's killing the precious Jesus children! But the court says we can't do that so we'll burden you with as many common sense obstacles as we can include to make it more difficult and expensive to murder babies. Like mandatory waiting periods to give the girl time to think it over, mandatory "education" so she knows how bad the procedure is, forced disclosure to the parents, mandatory ultrasounds, mandatory making the woman listen to fetal heartbeat, making clinics liable for malpractice suits if they give abortions, and more! Think of the unborn children!"
This is (correctly!) blasted for infringing on fundamental human rights and dignity. It is recognized for the slow erosion that it is. But then these same people will make the same exact demands of the second amendment, waiting periods, mandatory education, lawsuits against gun sellers who legally sell to mass shooters, making it more difficult and expensive, etc. but say they don't want to ban "all guns."
I guess it's easy to be logically inconsistent and dismissive when it comes to rights a person doesn't personally care about.
