I, too, have taken to having some trauma stuff close at hand, regardless of whether I'm carrying a firearm. There are more scenarios where the trauma gear would be helpful.

My work prohibits me from carrying--it's an environment thing (a distillery, so alcohol fumes), so I don't sweat it. Otherwise, I'm carrying. I don't expect to need the thing, frankly, but one never knows.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

I have a Washington state CCP permit. My EDC is a Beretta 96A1 .40. For a full size frame, it's not that hard to conceal with my OWB holster. The only issue I have is that it's made of Kydex plastic and can bite a bit hard into my hip while driving and sitting. Unfortunately, I didn't research the weapon thoroughly enough, it is rather difficult to find a more comfortable holster for it. It has proven difficult to find a good alternative yet affordable option. The issue being the integrated accessory rail. Ideally I have been looking for a leather Lvl 2 retention holster. Perhaps some members might know of any holsters that may be closer to what I'm looking for.

I do now that I finally got around to obtaining my CHL. My wife thought it a bit strange at first that I would gear-up before a trip to the grocery store...and then a hospital security guard was recently shot and killed, and she realized that shit can hit the fan anywhere at anytime. Now she says she feels more secure knowing I'm armed when we venture out into the world. My thinking is that, while I don't think I'll need it, I don't know that I wont.

I get that.

And, :welcome: again!

I'm not allowed to carry when at work, so I don't (wink, wink). I am more likely to carry a tourniquet and gloves and Quik-Clot (I bought one of the wallets from Live the Creed for this purpose) all the time than I am a pistol, but if I'm not at work and I'm not at the house, I'm probably armed. When I'm at work, I'm required to carry OC Spray, so there's that...

I’m convinced that it’s it’s extremely unlikely I’ll ever need a firearm for self defense, especially on my daily rounds to the grocery store, etc. However, I’ve been carrying since 2008 and it’s a part of my lifestyle, now. My wife at first thought it was a bit weird when she first met me.

However, I follow the boy scout motto - “be prepared.”

It also not all that unreasonable when I spend my days out kayaking & wildlife and hunting areas where there is no real law enforcement presence. It’s reasonable to take precautions to safeguard one’s self.

My wife has come along way on her gun thinking (the condition of the world has furthered that). While she still isn't much interested in shooting, she's glad we have 'em in the house. She's also happy to have me carrying by her side whenever we're out and about.

Today my old S&W 59 in an equally old Strong pancake holster but with one of my 10 round 59 magazines. I try to have 10 round versions for all my higher capacity magazines and also to load them and carry them with a range trip devoted to 10 round magazines every few months.

Personally I feel safer in the wilderness than in a grocery store and especially in a Walmart or Target store.

I’m worried about chance encounters with people. There’s no real threat of aggressive bears in MI or Ohio.

ETA: OH has an estimated Population of 50-100 black bears and they are considered endangered species in Ohio.

MI is more like 10000 black bears so not as rare. They do get into your trash if it’s unsecured in Northern MI.

Actually that is quite intentional.

I am old and out of shape and often alone. That makes me a easy target.

I'm almost always wearing a bright guayabera or Hawaiian or Key West print or Fishing shirt, shorts, Happy Socks and sporting long curly hair and a tie dyed headband. That makes me conspicuous and so a slightly less easy target. That's true whether I'm openly carrying, discretely carrying or concealed carrying.

But for 99% of the public the dress is all they see. I've held discussions with people who comment on my clothes but only a very few times when I am openly carrying have comment on the fact that I'm also armed. And it is unusual to find anyone even aware of my presence. The vast majority of people are simply unaware of anything beyond their ubiquitous entertainment.

I'm also not wearing ear buds or carrying a cell phone or iPad in hand and I am watching and listening to what's going on around me rather than lost in social media. That makes me an even less easy target.

But again, for that 0.1% of the public that may wish me harm the fact that I am old, conspicuous, alert, aware and armed is generally not what they want to see.

Granted there may come a group who are not deterred or want to take my gun but that will be an even smaller percentage of the potential threats out there.

I think wearing (open carry) a revolver open carry sends a message of confidence, that the owner is fully comfortable with his gun ad a damn good shot considering it's a 5 or 8 round gun vs carrying a 17 round prey an spray gun.
Least that's my take when I see someone carrying one. I like Hawaiian type shirts as well. I'm always looking to see who printing or open carrying.
T-shirt with a collared shirt over top, open in the front so I don't have to lift any shirt to access my weapon.. It conceals a holstered gun very well and won't print.

Same here - wear many different Dashiki shirts, rayon Cuban bright wild ass patterns, Tams or Greek seaman hats, bright color Tee shirts. One thing I don't do is wear shorts in public for fear of causing accidents due to blinding people should sun or light reflect off my legs. Get many complements on my shirts when out and about from both sexes. Never leave home without my EDC nor put out garbage or check mail or potty Jake without EDC. My biggest problem is an 8-Track mind that prevents my being more proficient in situational awareness and STILL being too trusting of others - big draw back.

Yes, paywall.

But yes, I agree it's a good idea to have a LTC even though it's not necessary. But Texas has to have the stupidest "Signs" set up imaginable.

Word, brother. Just seeing a potential threat before/at the same time that it sees you is often (though obviously not always) an almost magical deterrent.

Our terrier does the same thing late at night on the walk. The instant he identifies anything that could hurt either of us, our odds improve whether we are armed with anything besides his needle-sharp teeth or not.

The last few days I've been reduced to carrying plastic in plastic; my S&W M&P Shield 2.0 45acp in a kydex holster. It works, holds the pistol adequately and lets me sit and stand and move around and only pokes me occasionally. But when it pokes and prods it does so very well. Were I the Michelin Man I'd have a punctured sidewall by now.

I need to get a nice leather OWB holster for it and soon.
