Fuck!

Edit: to be more explicit.
Even my profane vocabulary is inadequate right now. I guess the authorities will announce the identity of the monster soon enough.

My reaction to this is all over the place. I have three kids. Two small children 2 & 3 and an 18 year old. One is approaching school age, and another one in college, so I put myself in the shoes of a parent receiving a call about a shooting at his school and I feel such fear and anger. I am enraged at the perpetrator who for whatever reason thought that taking a gun into a school and shooting people to resolve any issue was a viable solution. I am anticipating with dread the response from NRA and other blind advocates pulling out the old trite lines about "guns don't kill people..." and other crap. I am also waiting (and did not have to wait long) for the anti-gun ownership side to start screaming that "it's the gun!!!"... Ed Schultz, on his radio show started off the program screaming about that topic.

We do need to have a discussion in this country about violence in general and about why people are so quick to use guns to commit that violence. Now most of you know my stance on gun control and I have not changed that stance. The discussion however, needs to be had without all the stupid and trite one liners. We need to look at everything and not get caught up in our emotional trenches.

We have to find a way to reduce to the point of elimination, this problem with violence and apathy in our society.

My mind, out of long habit, runs to identity and motive as soon as I hear about one of these.

My first thought was a child custody dispute, with a non-custodial parent wanting to take a kid out of school and the school saying, "No." Multiple children as victims, though, sounds more like batshit the-voices-said-to-do-it crazy.

Just saw wlewisiii's post regarding a second shooter. WTF?

Sources are contradicting each other regarding a second shooter.

News conference about to start:

http://abcnews.go.com/live

Probably other news outlet are providing live streams too, ABC just happened to be the one that came up first.

Edit: Actually, I think ABC is wrong. They say 1:00pm for the conference but other sources say 1:30pm.

Newtown isn't that far from the NY state line. States are packed a lot tighter back there than they are out here, too.
