The state of Illinois would have to allow ordinary citizens to carry weapons under a federal appeals court ruling issued today, but the judges also gave lawmakers 180 days to put their own version of the law in place.

Where this goes? Back to the courts if this Currie person (D-Chicago) is any indication (quoting from the article linked above):
“If we need to change the law, let us at least craft a law that is very severely constrained and narrowly tailored so that we don’t invite guns out of control on each of our city’s streets,” Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”
Maybe she could have said "out of control" once more for good measure.

Still a great win! :yahoo:

Has Rahm Emanuel had a stroke yet???? I am hopeful but I have a hunch that the Chicago Dems wiill drag their feet and try to push through a law that is so restrictive it ends up in the courts again. Just an observation from north of the border, I hope I have misread my southern brethren.

Here’s how I see it. The court is saying in light of the Heller decision, they’re not going to tolerate the BS anymore. So the Illi-noise anti-gunners could try to play games, but they could find themselves making some very career limiting decisions; it’s not a good idea to make a habit of pissing off supreme court justices even at the state level, or appellate justices. So they’re going to have to come up with something that’s reasonable. They’re going to be rather pissed, but they’re going to try to model how California does it where it’s up to the County Sheriff…but I’m not even sure that will pass constitutional muster. The data is solid, blood doesn’t run in the streets when CCW is passed, so they’re going to have a rough time getting around not issuing. In Sacramento the new sheriff issues on a shall-issue basis and most seem to think that anyone who doesn’t follow suit will never be elected county sheriff anymore. Things are a changing for the better for gun owners.

Wasn't Illinois just a few votes shy of getting shall-issue CCW anyway?

What I think is that the bill would come back alive, but will be sure to include state preemption and likely reciprocity.

Right now the Ill. pro-gunners don't need to accept anything shirt off this. A failure of the antis to capitulate will likely result in a Vermont situation, something they would certainly not welcome.
