Re: man who killed teens in break-in charged with murder

I can see shooting the first and then warning the second to leave. Beyond that, not good.

A 'warning shot' should be the one that goes into the first non-leaving burglar. If they leave, no need to shoot. IF they don't the they are there to cause harm and all bets are off.

This guy probably calls others 'retarded'...

He has become my new 'that guy' for home defense.

What a mess.
Bail was set at $2 million, with the prosecution noting the defendant's extensive travels to Beijing, Bangkok, Moscow and elsewhere overseas while he was working for the U.S. State Department.

If it hadn't said he worked for the state dept. I would've thought he was shopping for a wife.

Guy who traps teenagers in his basement and executes them and is also interested in international sex tourism? That was my first thought too.
Don't forget the 2 million bail...he must also have the funds as well...

That is part of what is extremely suspicious beyond his candid statement about how he basically executed them both. He claims that the second victim voluntarily came down into the basement after this guy fired several rounds from a .223 caliber rifle into her cousin? Like she didn't hear that? I'm more inclined to believe he herded them down there at gunpoint and then shot them both.

Let's just say I won't be shocked if they don't find a single drop of blood anywhere except that basement floor.

Execution, Minnesota homeowner style?

Sad as it all is, what we have here is a case of two "gonna live forever" teens involved in a confrontation with a true psychopath. I was never into burglary or anything even at my most rambunctious, but my folks tried to instill in me the idea that everyone YOU pick to do wrong to is NOT going to be a law abiding citizen. When my stepson went through his teen years, I used to tell him the same thing. My point is, thousands of kids disappear every year. A big proportion are teenagers. You never know what kind of shit your teen is getting into when they're not at home. My bet is at least some of them disappear because of incidents like this.

Having said that, this incident raises some questions. My number one question is what the hell was this guy DOING in that basement? Did he have a pot growing set-up? Meth lab? What I am reading is that he had time to clean up that basement before he called the cops. Both guns he used were .22s. (How was the Mini 14 set up?) In a brick house, a .22 would be barely audible from outside, and near silent from the basement. A .22 is NOT the first choice for a self defense weapon. He was set up to defend something, and not get caught. There's more to this story, I guarantee you.
