But it only took a single CCW holder to kill one robber, wound a second, and drive off the third. Nobody else got hurt.

2There is something to be said for using aggression to defend yourself, but I would not market that in every situation. Perhaps they give up their wallets, the robbers get away, get caught later and get put into prison. No one dies.
This was a fortunate situation for the victims. It could have gone bad in so many ways. Also, I know this is not a popular thing to say, but regardless of the crime spree being stopped, the CCW killed someone and has to live with that. I am all for self defense, but I hesitate when it is made to sound clean and like a case of "yeah good guys, boo bad guys".

3I can't imagine that mugging is that prosperous of a profession nowadays, given that people use credit so often. Why risk the chance of getting blown away by a CCW holder(who almost certainly has spent more time at the range then you) for $15?

4It does appear that they had given up their wallets and car keys and were threatened, "I'll kill you", before the CCW was pulled. Even still there will be a couple of rough months / years ahead for the defender.
I vote unify behind him, without calling him a *hero*. Call him what he is alive due to his actions but burdened by the result of these actions.
