She was just re-elected to another six-year term. She's 79 years old, so I guess she's going for the Strom Thurmond record.

Polls have shown Feinstein as the most popular politician in CA for years. I don't understand it, as I don't really know anyone who likes her politics. Gun issues aside, she is much too conservative and Blue Doggish to earn the approval of the progressives I talk politics with.

Feinstein to push for no-grandfathered semi-auto ban?

So how did the NFA outlaw previously legal Tommy guns and shotgun pistols with short barrels?

Washington can do anything we let them get away with.

They didn't really make the tommy gun illegal they just put a huge tax for a permit, When I was growing up in the late 50's and early 60's it was $500. That was a helluva of a lot of money then. I don't know what the situation is now. I don't know abpout shotgun pistols with short barrels. How does the S&W Governor and Tarrus Judge get around the law?

The situation now is that there is a $200 tax on all NFA weapons which is bad enough and needs to go but what really eroded a gigantic portion of our rights is the cursed Hughes Amendment that was tacked onto the FOPA in 86 that banned the sale of machine guns manufactured after the date of enactment to civilians. This of coarse made the select few of them available skyrocket in price so only the filthy rich can conceivably possess one. This is completely unacceptable and it's beyond reprehensible why the cowardly citizens of this sad country don't outright defy it.
The Taurus and S&W revolvers slip under their bullshit NFA laws because they have rifled barrels and their "main function" is to fire a standard round, in this case the 45 Long Colt. There's even another garbage regulation restricting bore size to 50 cal and under. This is what killed Taurus' effort last year to release a 28 gauge version of the judge. Sure they could have created a pistol round in that same dimension but it would have been over the size limit. We are being regulated down to nothing bit by bit and everyone is too blind and/or apathetic to fight it. :x

The transfer tax has always been $200. There was a Federal court decision that almost wrecked the NFA when it was pointed out that by forcing a previously legally owned firearm to be registered, the Feds were in essence forcing people to expose themselves to legal jeopardy. The solution was to create a one time free registration for a year.
