For those things that don't get everyday use like cameras, radios etc, I've found this to work quite well

Just pull it out when you're ready to go.

Just remember to leave some sticking out so you don't waste 10 minutes fiddling with the thing trying to figure out why it won't work a few months down the road....

it was probably just some paper or plastic tab slipped in between battery terminal and contact to break the connection.

i'm retired. what's your excuse?
