ccording to a report released to The Huffington Post by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office on behalf of the Woodruff Police Department, Officer William Knight made a traffic stop on a car on Jamies Creek Drive in Woodruff Thursday afternoon.

During the stop, 33-year-old Matthew Simmons jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. When Knight gave chase on foot, 28-year-old Lacey Denise Lamb, a passenger in Simmons' vehicle, slid behind the wheel, turned the vehicle toward Knight and hit the gas, police said.

"While chasing Simmons, the female passenger tried to assault the officer with the suspect vehicle," the police report states.

Knight fired his service revolver at the pregnant woman and immediately afterward the vehicle crashed into a nearby mobile home, police said.

"[Lamb] went straight towards him," witness Alisa Thomas said, according to WSPA. "I knew she was, I mean, like she was going to run over him. So when he fired, he apparently hit her in the head, she lost consciousness and I saw the car just go straight, drive through the underpinning under the trailer."

Lamb was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after the shooting. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. According to the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, Lamb was 21 weeks pregnant and her unborn baby died.

Yeah, pretty much this. I'm not a big fan of killing people and all, but in this case I feel bad for the cop. Remember, a baby died too. At 21 weeks, we're getting pretty damned close to viability.

For real. It looks like the department is pretty tight with the community. 4,090 people in less than four square miles. Half the people in a cancer walk back in April were city cops. The whole town is reeling.

I just found a great deal on some IN STOCK Spike's Tactical lowers from a random website and since there is a 8-12 month waiting list from Spike's themselves, I decided to get 2. On sale, and free shipping! $90 for a Spike's Tactical stripped lower. Quite a deal in my opinion.

Anyway, when I was doing the transfer, one of the guys that works at the range I do transfers with (only $20 for as many guns as you want, first time I ever had more than 1 :yahoo: ), was talking to me about politics/election day and he ended up telling me he was a cop for 30 years, SWAT for 20, and since retired. He was telling me how he doesn't like the attitude and mindset of new cops these days. It's funny because then out of nowhere, he brings up the very example of shooting someone who is trying to run you over with a car and how he disagrees with it. I instantly remembered this thread.

His exact words were: "People have tried to run me over plenty of times. You know what I did? I got out of the way."

He then said he tells new cops, since he's a firearms instructor, "If you get in a situation where you need to use your weapon, you need to think about how you let yourself get into that position." But of course, he said that if you're really boxed in and you have no choice, then you have no choice.

He also spoke about how he doesn't like the militarization of law enforcement and as someone who has actually served in the military, doesn't like these cops with a military attitude, despite never having served in the military. He said they need to have the discipline the military does, but they don't. I couldn't agree more. It was refreshing to hear someone of his experience say so many things I already think. He also said that cops get away with things these days that he and other cops would have never gotten away with in years past. He'll tell Minneapolis cops, "You know why your job is so hard in Minneapolis and people are so difficult? Because you're jerks to everyone." I think it's funny when cops agree with me, saying the same things I say, but I come off to most people very anti-cop.
