I imagine this is not a long-term plan. What a mess.

Since the citizenry have guns--enough of them, apparently--at least they can defend themselves. If they'd been totally unarmed, they'd have been dead by now.

Problem is, Mexican federal firearm laws prohibit civilian citizens to arm themselves with effective firearms, particularly in these cases. No AR's, no AK's, no M1 carbines, no M1 Garands. No 9mm, no .45 ACP, no .40 S&W, no .357 SIG, no .38 Super.

In fact, if they are armed with any of the above, they are most certainly breaking the law.

In theory, they are only left with long barreled shotguns, bolt action rifles, .380 pistols, and .38 Special revolvers.

It's bad.

Something tells me that a lot of these firearms were taken from both sides of the border town war. Much like the Sgt Major in " once we were soldiers", don't worry, once the shooting starts there will be plenty of guns to go around.
