Re: President Obama says he favors assault gun ban

I couldn't find anything that said he flatly came out for a ban. I goggled around because it seems like an unusual thing to say since he avoided saying anything about banning guns or any sort or restriction. Some news sources paraphrase and say he 'favors' a ban but I haven't found anything that's a direct quote and nothing on youtube.

I imagine if he said "I favor gun bans" it would be a loop tape on fake news and elsewhere.

I don't doubt he considers current laws pretty loose for citizens owning certain guns but I can't find a direct quote.

Shrug. Mittens has signed a real gun ban and said that Massachusetts laws don't need to be loosened. Supposedly he's pro-gun.

Obama has signed several bill expanding where people can carry and otherwise improve our gun rights. He did contine the Bush League "gunwalker" shit which was a mistake but everything else he has actually done has been positive. So he's "anti-gun".

For some funny reason I find the story of the President going shooting with his security people far more believable than this tale.

A quick Googling has the story coming from Mediacorp, which runs 7 television channels and 13 radio channels in Singapore. That is to say, not exactly in the same zip code as CNN, AP Wire, or even Fox News.

More importantly, "Kids Pick the President" is about as significant as "Dogs Pick the President" or "These three polar bears pick the President."

The story bears an AFP (Agence France-Presse) tagline actually. AFP and SkyNews are running pretty much the same story. So, it's making news overseas but not here. Not the first time.

No big deal, time will tell.

Unless the dems hold both Houses, it'll never happen. It shouldn't happen anyway.

Well, the way "assault weapon" is used is a misnomer. Full auto and all...

Personally, I'd use the language from Heller about "in common use" to argue that AW's should not be banned.

Foolishly, he said it to pander to the spineless ones among the dems. Unless he has a dem House and a dem Senate peopled with spineless dems, an AW ban will not happen. Priceless about Romney saying fully automatic weapons are "illegal." hehe

Education truely is key. ;)

I love the retort of 'MA gun restrictions were messed up before Romney' counter-arguement. Count that as one of his wasted chances to fix it if he truely was 'pro-gun'.

So, has anyone ventured off into the land of wing nuts to see what the reactions have been? I don't dare to as I don't think my wife would appreciate me throwing her laptop across the parking lot

Just lots of "the Democrats are out to destroy our freedoms" and "they won't stop until we have a total disarmament". A lot talking of running to the LGS to buy ammo and rifles before the run begins. The main thing was " this is why Romney is the only choice and how stupid any gun owner that doesn't see that is". Oh and don't forget " Mitt really told Obama how it was and made him look like a fool" ..lol.

I do hope he is just pandering to the anti-gun idiots. Either way he shouldn't have said anything if he could have helped it. I'm waiting to hear that part of the debate replayed because I missed it. God damn liberal media.

I agree that it's highly unlikely that it would ever make it to his desk, but if somehow it did, I don't like that he would sign it.

But, then again, so would Willard probably, given his record.

I wish he wouldn't pander to the anti-gun idiots. It just alienates potential voters who would like to vote for him, but are also pro-gun.

If democrats were smart enough to drop the anti-gun agenda idiocy, they could tap into a big part of the electorate. But, maybe they just don't want to win badly enough.

If you look at demographics, particularly young people, they are pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, they tend to have liberal views like that, but they are ALSO pro-gun. If the democrats expect to keep a lot of young voters, they are going to need to drop the anti-gun agenda nonsense.

Yeah. I don't really understand the single-issue voters.

I'm voting for Obama because Romney (and all the other Republicans) scare the hell out of me.

I wonder if either one of them wants much gun control. The gun industry may be the healthiest sector in the economy.

^^^^ this is exactly right. I hate to say this but I would rather lose the right to buy an AR or AK, than the right for my daughter to have a choice in her own body. Not to mention the tax issues and more of the same policies that Bush implemented. Please don't get me wrong, I will fight tooth and nail to protect every firearm freedom we have, I also support Obama on all of the other issues he stands for.

Agreed. Single issue voters should also know that gun control is so far down on the Presidential agenda. If (hopefully) Obama truly rights the ship (ie. ends the recession, withdrawals troops from Afghanistan, and lowers unemployment below 6%) he might have time to battle the less pressing domestic issues like gun control.

I just don't see it happening with the dozens of problems Dubya left him four years ago.

Literally the only thing I can count on that is still made in the USA is my guns and ammo.

That is except for my European made ones of course, like HKs, Glocks, etc. and cheapo Russian steel case ammo.

Although, my AR has grown on me quite a bit and has become my overall favorite firearm, all parts made in the USA. Thank you Eugene Stoner.

Oh, Russian steel case ammo. I loves me some Tula 7.62x39.

I have bought (and will continue to buy) only American-made guns. Ruger (Arizona), Sig (New Hampshire), and Beretta (Maryland).

Some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time, so they have to obsessively focus on one item at a time... and the economy, social issues, values are complicated compared to guns.
