In NC avoid online training. The law in NC is very clear about what the curriculum of a CCP/CCW course should be: "eight hours of safety training" When I called our local sheriff the deputy that fielded the call told me you can't have 8 hours of safety training online. How does the instructor see the way you handle a gun? How can the instructor show you the right way to handle a gun online? It's ridiculous! In NC if you meet legal requirements and the local sheriffs dept approves your application you have a carry permit.

Who would have thunk Jim Crow laws we have been trying to get off the books for years saved NC from the Brady Bill?

I almost commented without reading the article, only to realize its from my local news channel. The concept of online classes for a CCW permit is a joke and needs to be changed. That, unfortunately will never happen in the home state of the NRA. Its bad enough the actual in person classes do nothing to show how to safely handle a gun but to do it over the internets is a joke. And yes, I made the mistake of reading the comments section.

This is why I applaud the efforts of my legislators who refuse to consider reciprocity in the absence of minimal standards. After reading the comments, I suspect that Oregon will remain a reciprocity free zone for the indeterminate future.

I still have fond memories when we compared CHL/CCW licenses from across the states, this was during the Annual Meeting (Friday evening, heck, I DO REMEMBER SOMETHINGS).

One of those eye opening moments for me.

North Carolina passed a pistol purchase permit law in 1919 that required an individual obtain a purchase permit from the local sheriff's office, including private sales, gifts, and inheritance. Ostensibly this was done to keep African-Americans from buying firearms by leaving it to the discretion of the local sheriff.

Thanks. Now I get it.
