He was trying to hit the golf ball with his shot. Kind of like Regan's Starwars missle shield.

Live in a house facing a golf course and then get pissed off when an errant ball breaks your window. Go figure....
this is like all those california morons who rebuild their brushfire burnt-out homes on denuded hillsides and then scream bloody murder when the mudslides come.

Ed Bradley complained once about golfing with Hunter Thompson because he would pull a shotgun out of his bag and shoot the ball when Ed teed off.
