A South Carolina man is dead after demonstrating the "proper way" to shoot yourself in the head.

James Gagum, 43, was watching a movie at his home in Conway when a witness told police he began arguing about the way a character was handling a gun, police told Conway TV station WPDE.

He picked up a revolver, held it to his head and said, "That's not how it's done."

Gagum pulled the trigger several times. On the third pull, the gun went off, according to The Associated Press.
(As a side note, the company I work for hosts this web site. :) )

And his epitaph read: "Now THAT'S how it's done!"

Sometimes winning an argument isn't the most important thing.

There's a Darwin Award nominee if I ever saw one.

He's to old to be the reincarnation of Jon Hexum.

At least he proved that he knew what he was doing.

Darwin +1.

From the original link:

In 2010, Gagum made headlines when he shot and killed one of three suspects who broke into his home. He claimed they pointed a gun at he and his wife, Myrtle Beach, S.C, TV station WMBF reported.

I wonder if there weren't some unresolved mental health issues from that event. This sure as hell counts as reckless, self-destructive behavior.

Good point. We've brought up PTSD on and off, as a possible result of a post-shooting event. Mas Ayoob deals with this subject in many of his works.

Worth a revisit:

His wife is named Myrtle Beach?

As Herb Caen used to say, "Gimme rewrite!".

Also, "at he" should be "at him."

I'm sorry, I missed my calling as a 19th-century schoolmarm.

Ok, so I've heard of keeping the hammer on an empty cylinder, but why would you have two empty? Maybe it was leftover from the last game of Russian Roulette.

More likely he thought it was unloaded, but he missed one.

And that is why you don't violate the 4 rules of gun safety. Ever!

A pistol with a loading gate - perhaps. With a star ejector? No way.

No. Rules 1&2:

1) A gun is always loaded
2) Don't point a gun at something unless you intend to destroy it
