The husband told officers that he usually keeps a gun on his nightstand but that it somehow made it into the bed. He allegedly rolled over on the gun and, not knowing what it was, grabbed it.
The gun discharged, police said, shooting the man's sleeping wife once in the stomach.
Hrm.

A gut shot.
Not just a bad result from a ND, but very likely a horrible one.

Hmm, again.
I wonder if he struggled with the safety first?

Another thought is '1911' and his muscle memory kicked in and turned down the safety...
Best reason for a drawer safe I can think of. Of course, that'll be on my wife's side since I sleep too damned deeply.

It could've been a wheelgun or a Glock or a Condition One 1911, but the only inherently dangerous component was the dumbass who "somehow" ended up in bed with it.
I wonder if he (or both of them) were actually playing a grown-up's game with it and squeezed a little too hard?
Never mind - I didn't really say that. Or think it. Ever.

You weren't the only one who wasn't thinking that.
