Apparently an aptly named Mr. Harryman got himself into a bit of an altercation with a stranger whilst in queue at the Clackamas Oregon Fred Meyer grocery store, and decided to 'skin the chuckwagon' to settle their differences.

The problem- for all of us - is that the knucklehead in question was holding a valid CHL at the time.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office investigators said a man who opened fire and wounded another man in a Clackamas Fred Meyer checkout line had a concealed weapons permit.
Now I don't know about you, but the responsibility that accrues to me when I carry requires that I act with probity at all times: overt meekness, sobriety, and leaving the middle finger at home are all required. At all times!

It's true that CHL holders commit crimes at rates much lower than the general population, and it's also true that the many crimes we deter are mostly never reported by the media, BUT -
- It only takes a few cases like the aforementioned to sour the unarmed public to the whole notion of licensed concealed carry.

See, this is why we can't have nice things.

Dorothy said that after he was shot, William, a Vietnam veteran, managed to put his finger behind the trigger of the gun during the struggle to stop Harryman from firing the weapon again. Otherwise, she said she's convinced Harryman would have kept firing.
