Unless there's something I'm missing, that bill has merely been postponed. Generally, I'd like to see a failed vote to consider a bill dead. At the same time, I realize that legislative dynamics sometimes make it so that postponement is amounts to death. Is it the case in CA?

In MD, it is certainly the case that because our legislature is controlled by anti-gun-ownership Democrats bills what favor gun owners die in the Senate's Judicial Proceedings Committee. The chair, Mr. Frosh, simply puts them in his drawer and leaves them there.

The legislative session will end this year, so no two year bill.

The bill will surely be reintroduced in the new session in January, but it will have to go through the full legislative process (not a gut and amend).

It will surely pass committees to get to the floor, where it might pass, depending on the makeup of the new legislature.

The key to blocking it will be moderate democrats, and of course our gun-owning Governor...

LGS were whipped into a frenzy by the NRA, anti-SB 249 notices on their websites and in their stores. I agree, I don't see it going anywhere this year.

It can't go anywhere this year. It was ruled a substansive change to existing law that had no committee hearings. Dead...till January.

Y'know, it's sad. There are soooooo many things going for California from my perspective, and so few things that keep me from moving there, but this is definitely one of the things that has kept me from moving there for the last 15-20yrs. We lived out there when I was a kid, and I loved it. I've been through several times since my childhood, spending a few weeks there each time. As it stands though, if ever I move out west, it will most likely be to Portland.

I've always wanted to and will someday visit Cali. I'll never live in a state this closed off from reality. Surf on Garth.
