Police say a 56-year-old man, permitted to legally carry a concealed weapon, shifted in his seat and a handgun dropped from his pocket. The weapon hit the floor and discharged.
“After wounding himself in an unknown portion of his buttocks,” Hawkins said, “he stood up, apologized to people in the audience and left.” Police said only five patrons in the crowd of 30 heard the gun go off. No one else was hurt.

What kind of fussy gun discharges so easily on being dropped?

I thought of a derringer in 22lr, just speculating. There was an incident in the news awhile back of a man who had a 22 derringer fall out of his pocket in a restaurant and it discharged shooting a woman in the butt.

Some older guns can discharge when dropped hard enough. New guns have some kind of drop safety designed into them.

My first gun was a Raven .25 (it was all I could afford at the time). In the days before video security cameras, bartenders leaving work at 2:00 am never knew what was waiting on the other side of the door; and many people thought we took the night's cash home with us, so most of us were armed. Anyway, one night when I was leaving work with a friend, somehow my gun worked its way loose and fell on the floor with a big BANG. After checking ourselves for bullet holes and luckily finding none, we left, and I traded that POS in the next day.

"Improved" guns with lightened triggers, often carried as unsafe as possible to "improve reaction time". You know the kind of person.

That gun has history of discharging when dropped. Also, broadside of barns will laugh at you. The rare event I take my Raven to the range, my friends and I play a betting game on who can actually touch the paper at 25 yards. It's better than rolling dice.

I think Raven was the first of the Saturday Night Specials made in a machine shop in City of Industry, California. What did you trade it for ?

A Colt Combat Commander.
Broadsides of barns still laughed at me (a little more respectfully, perhaps).
Now I own 2 9mm SIGs. . . . Barns beware.

Someone traded you a Colt Combat Commander for a Raven?

You added $$$ right?

And you are safe even if you drop those SIGs. Civil lawsuits kept closing each successor company and I think Phoenix Arms is the only one left in California (Ontario), Jimenez Arms moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

It wasn't a direct trade - I sold the Raven for $35 and bought the Colt for $200 (it was a long time ago; wish I still had it!)

AD's from handguns falling on the floor have been happening for almost as long as they have been made. One of the more famous one's was Wyatt Earp's Colt single action army falling out of his holster and discharging when it hit the floor as he was sitting down at a table in a saloon. Nobody got hurt but it reportedly scared the hell out of him. The Colt single action army is still being produced in basically it's original configuration 139 years after it's introduction.

What portion of his butt is unknown. Is there some new nether region about to be discovered?
