WASHINGTON -

D.C. Police have confirmed to FOX 5 that they are investigating why an Army-style assault rifle was mistakenly mailed to a D.C. man in an online order.

Seth Horvitz says he ordered a flat-screen television from a third party through Amazon.com. He received a package that was left in the hallway outside of his Northeast D.C. apartment Tuesday, but instead of a television, he found a black semi-automatic rifle inside the box.

Unsure about what to do with the rifle, Horvitz says he contacted police about it Tuesday evening. Police confiscated the rifle when they came to his apartment.

"But honey, I swear I ordered a TV. But since it's here... Want to go to the range?"

I know right?

Guy's never gonna get his tv now. He should have just called the sender and Amazon, I'm almost sure they would have jumped to fix the situation and maybe even compensate the guy to avoid any potential legal issues. Situation is a total cluster fuck now.

How deliciously paranoid. I wonder if you are right.

I ordered a tv and received an assault rifle. That's two fuck-ups and one too many. Sorry if I'm sceptical of this "impossibility".

I would have believed it if this happened to some redneck.

Right, and it just happened to be in DC that this occurred? "All I did was order a new TV, and instead they tried to give me this scary black, militaristic (semi)automatic death machine!!!!"

The TV is way more dangerous than the rifle.

Firearm ownership is extremely restricted in DC. I think AR ownership is nonexistent. If you're pulled over with a firearm in your car and aren't bringing it home from the store or taking it to your new home you just moved to, they will rain hell down on you.

I would have called the cops in a heartbeat.

True.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
Look at all the shit the wingnuts believe.
They won't have to fire a shot to take over. They are doing it through propaganda.
That's why we're a right wing nation now.

Seriously, +1. TV is where these idiots go there education regarding firearms all together. Even this situation is an example of reckless entertainment.

Not only did this guy who HAPPENED to have received the firearm say all the right things to cater to anti rights, the drama and amazement is making the ratings even if it's not believable.

That's why I linked to the long version of the story. The youtube embed was the teaser. You have to go to the site and see the full video where they explained how it could have happened..

Apparently one of the address labels transferred to the gun box.

The TV would then have no label

Or it was a UPS employee prank.

I have had that happen in the grocery store. All I got was fruit.

No bullets.

:wtf:

Actually I saw this this morning on CNN. How coincidental it ended up in the hands of a guy who says "look how easy it is to get an assault rifle". So much for FFL regs! If it happened to me id throw it in my safe and say "where's my god damn TV!". After all, this dweeb said he found it on his doorstep. Not even signed for...

I don't believe you're that larcenous. Even if you stole that horse.

It is pretty coincidental. But Maybe..true.

People run into lead coming at them and walk away without being hit too. Anything can happen.

Last time I heard, there was only one FFL in DC, and the process was long and arduous to procure any gun...legally.

It's always seemed odd to me that in DC, the only Federal city, where the only laws are city and federal and arguably the constitution should be more important there than anywhere else in the nation, that civil rights should be so grievously infringed. Gun rights, equal representation, freedom of assembly in some areas... What else? I'm sure that I'm missing something.

Ha, the only horse I ever stole. I miss him. Your words are always the wisdom I wish I had. Yup, I'm the pessimist, but one with an open ear. :beer2:

It probably has to do with the fact that DC is filled with so many high profile people and more than enough protection. Plus, DC is a high crime area. I know I tried looking for an official reason once and couldn't find anything good. There is a conservative newspaper reporter out there who did a whole story on how difficult it was to get a gun in DC. The article was interesting, but her BS politics stuck out like a sore thumb.
