I hope the family of the gunman doesn't go to his funeral. They might get bombed. Glad the first responders here got a reprieve though.

All true, but the Sikhs doing this play right into our domestic shitbags' hands. "See, Bubba? They ARE American-hatin' Muslms!!"Fukshot wrote:What do you expect when we allow our current political climate to continue? We allow these terrorists to infiltrate our military. It is even politically dangerous for our "liberal" president to declare in direct language that terrorists such as the shooter are enemies of the state to be hunted down and imprisoned. We allow this to happen and we allow the media to paint the terrorist as a "lone gunman".
We allow it to continue, yet when someone blames us for it we explain it away as "not really American" and "the acts of extremists".
We deserve their anger. I know I do.
Their anger is justified. Our shitbags' is not.SwampGrouch wrote:All true, but the Sikhs doing this plays right into our domestic shitbags' hands. "See, Bubba? That is only true if you have a truly egocentric and jingoistic view of things. What Fukshot is saying is that we should not care what the hell Bubba thinks. Bubba is wrong and a fucking moron. Those innocent people were killed by a racist idiot in a country that tacitly approves racist ideology, and don't say that we don't because one of the MAJOR political parties, the one that has control of one of the houses of congress, and is the majority on the Supreme Court, and is mounting a close race for the Presidency; welcomes racists into its fold.SwampGrouch wrote:All true, but the Sikhs doing this play right into our domestic shitbags' hands. I've spent a lot of time in Terrace Park. My last lacrosse team was the Terrace Park Bulldogs. Had no idea about this connection, though that is a an accurate description of the town.In 1998, when Buschbacher was still a teenager living in Terrace Park, Ohio, a wealthy, almost exclusively white suburb of Cincinnati, he was ordained as a reverend in the World Church of the Creator, a violent neo-Nazi organization
Much better said than me. Thanks.Caliman73 wrote:Lots of sense
Given the pattern of discrimination against Sikhs from the ignorant and intolerant, their anger is completely understandable. But from a pragmatic perspective, photos of a gang of bearded, screaming, turbaned men, impaling a flaming American flag on long, curved swords are not the most effective way to appeal to the average person, even an educated and tolerant one. And yes, I agree that the media is at fault. But perception is reality. And unfortunately, we do need to care about what Bubba thinks. Non-Bubbas are less of a problem.Caliman73 wrote: That is only true if you have a truly egocentric and jingoistic view of things. Fukshot is right. The Sikhs are not playing into anyone's hands. They are reacting with anger. Perhaps their reaction is colored by the powerful emotions, but it does not make it valid. We have a neo-nazi, white separatist, neo-confederate, and various other (patriots etc..) movements that may be small, but are actively working to undermine our society because of some idiotic notion of race and racial purity. Our media covered the Prime Minister's statement, but what was the purpose of showing the protest pictures without any kind of context. THAT is what plays into the hands of any fool who would say, "see, they do hate us". Yeah, so would I if some racist shitbag had just killed a bunch of people I know for some idea of racial supremacy.
Small world. Got a bunch of cousins that live there. It began as a Catholic suburb back when (pre-civil rights) they were redlined out of Mariemont. Nice area.judgepacker wrote:Holy shit. Bolding is mine

their religious ceremonial knife they were, like, everywhere, isn't just decorative. The religion actively calls for them to help the oppressed.the comedian wrote:Ever since the founding of their religion, Sikhs have gotten it from all sides. Muslims attacked them for being infidels, Hindus went after them for being subversive. In response, they have developed a warrior culture, and were prized in colonial times by the British as a source of soldiers.
They don't take shit lying down. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sikhs in the U.S.A., if not allready armed will be soon.
Which may explain why the nazi's targeted them if it wasn't a case of mistaken identity. Can't have those that would protect the innocent from their oppressors.A Sikh must also have the courage to defend the rights of all who are wrongfully oppressed or persecuted irrespective of their colour, caste or creed.
I do not and I agree with Fukshot.Caliman73 wrote: That is only true if you have a truly egocentric and jingoistic view of things. What Fukshot is saying is that we should not care what the hell Bubba thinks. Bubba is wrong and a fucking moron.
I've known enough Sihks to put my money on them.SwampGrouch wrote:I do not and I agree with Fukshot.Caliman73 wrote: That is only true if you have a truly egocentric and jingoistic view of things. I should have been a little more verbose. I don't expect the Sikhs to react differently. I do expect to see Bubba and his friends ratchet up their bigotry which will probably result in more attacks.

"We had a moment of silence in honor of the people who lost their lives at that sheik temple. I noted that it was a tragedy for many, many reasons. Among them are the fact that people, the sheik people, are among the most peaceable and loving individuals you can imagine, as is their faith."—Republican presidential candidate and undiluted fuckbrain Mitt Romney, at a fundraiser in Des Moines last night.

The first cop on the scene shot him in the stomach and then the gunman turned his pistol on himself. The cop was shot 8 times and is already up and walking around at the hospital.

Remember, in april ?2009? the dept of homeland security released that assessment of the risk of homegrown terror attacks from the right wing, noting that returning/discharged veterans were at higher risk of going extremist, and the right wing noise machine freaked out?The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society.
Founded by civil rights lawyers Morris Dees and Joseph Levin Jr. in 1971, the SPLC is internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups.
