What's your point? You mad that people are praying about this tragedy? Is that against the rules? I don't get it.

We can insult religious people all day long here, but not for being religious.

JamesH, there are religious folks here who might take your frustrated exclamation as an insult. I'm sure that isn't how you meant what you said. Perhaps rephrasing is in order.

Thanks.

I have good friends that live in New Orleans, these people lived through Katrina. Over the years they have told many stories of the aftermath. They observed this the government did very little and stayed away from the most under privileged areas because it was scary. Then there where speculators that where looking to buy up land to gentrify the areas, liberal relief organizations were there for the dogs and cats, so was mike vick. Church groups went where ever the people needed help the most no matter how dangerous the neighborhoods were and although they brought bibles and preached they also brought food and water and truly cared and helped. I'm not saying all liberal groups ignored the needs of people in the most under privileged areas they just didn't have a big presence like the church groups.

Our liberal neighbor who is a retired nurse went down there and worked in the 8th ward. Like us, she is a devout atheist. On the other hand we always donate money to the Salvation Army even though they preach to their recipients, because in this area they do more for homeless families than any other charity.

I know that liberal groups did some down there, and the 8th ward was a solid working class neighborhood, there are far worse neighborhoods that were mostly ignored and still are.

I don’t understand the relevancy of your post. Seems you’re just looking for a chance to lash out at church goers. Is there some specific point?

I understand your reasoning, but ICK!

SA refuses shelter to "avowed" and "unrepentant" homosexuals. They don't even set up their little red buckets in downtown SF anymore because they always get several people standing in front of them to explain to passesrs-by why not to donate.

I got into an arguement with my cousin who is a Major. It was over some social issues opinions that actually surprised me that members of an org that 'helps the homeless' would have. Having family involved in that org, I haven't given anything in a lot of decades. I'll get hot cocoa for bell ringers, but no money goes into the pot.

During the Rodeo Chedeski fire, We were on a HAM radio net and the salvation army camp asked for volunteers to go to the Salvation Army camp. The Camp had become the FEMA site. We took our dog and the two of us - Both Hams. At the check point, was a Radio guy. He saw our licensees and offered us good paying jobs on the spot. He said there was a real need and he didn't think that the Salvation Army net was going to be very important because there were portable cell towers that had been brought in.

We said we had given our word. Sometimes you regret that.

We were given a Lieutenant's quarters. The Lt. was NOT pleased to see 2 ladies sharing her room while she went somewhere else.
Rant/On - Any church that uses military rank names makes me think WTF is wrong with that. What's the difference then? What if they start packin'? Wait we already have that. See Air Force Academy. Rant/Off

Anyway -

We ran a dipole antenna into the pine trees near the building. For the Hams - 2 plastic chalk lines with the chalk line being replaced by 100 feet each of teflon wire.

We set up and monitored the Salvation Army Net for 4 days. There was NO traffic on the net. Any questions the SA had amongst themselves was being handled by the uninterrupted cell phone traffic. Generator+ cell phone tower + Wheels= good.

The fire came close enough that we were issued Yellow fire shirts and Lovely UGH Green pants.

We came home. We couldn't do FEMA anyway because we would not subject our dog to any more smoke.

So here was the gift from the Salvation Army for Volunteer work - The "I survived The Rodeo Chedeski Fire" T-Shirt.

We actually thought that was a very special and thoughtful gift. We actually do not expect anything in return for volunteer work except the usual level of grief.

We had numerous Emails about the shirt. They showed us the artwork.
Then they diss-appeared us. No T-Shirt. No response to Email. They no Likee us. They don't acknowledge our existence.

I sincerely apologize for what I wrote. I actually don't even remember posting it. A friend came over last night, we got to drinking, I drank too much (looks like I went through almost a fifth of vodka from what I saw in my freezer today), he left, I must have started reading some online news (from what I saw that I posted here), and decided to rant about it.

It's not a good excuse, but it's mine.

Sorry everybody, again. I'm going to take a break from drinking and posting. Now I need to go see what emails I might have written or what I posted on facebook.

And just to clarify...

I blatantly said that religious people are "fucking uninformed hypocrites". I truly do NOT believe that. Wow. Considering that I'm testing out religion (Christianity) again after my Grandma's funeral a couple months ago, I really must have blacked out last night.

Man...
